The Grace of Liberation

At Parampara 2026, the Rangapravesh Ceremony of Mahabodhi Training and Research Centre of Arts, Tangla, Assam, Sreejitaa Sen, disciple of Ach. Banhidwijaa Roy, marked a beautiful milestone in her artistic journey with her Rangapravesh debut in Mokṣa.

A culmination of movement, rhythm, devotion and surrender, Mokṣa holds a special place in the Odissi tradition, bringing the dancer from the intricacies of rhythmic expression towards a state of spiritual release.

With grace, precision and dedication, Sreejitaa embraced the language of Odissi, allowing each movement to become an offering and every rhythm to lead towards that final moment of transcendence.

Her Rangapravesh was not simply a debut upon the stage, but the culmination of years of sādhanā, discipline, Guru’s guidance and unwavering devotion to the art.

As she took her first steps into the larger world of performance, may this Mokṣa mark not an ending, but the beginning of a lifelong journey of learning, discovery and artistic awakening.

When the body becomes movement, movement becomes prayer, and prayer becomes liberation.

When Abhinaya Becomes Poetry

At Parampara 2026, the Rangapravesh Ceremony of Mahabodhi Training and Research Centre of Arts, Tangla, Assam, Priya Saha, disciple of Ach. Banhidwijaa Roy, made her Rangapravesh debut with a deeply expressive Abhinaya on the celebrated Aṣṭapadi of Jayadeva’s Gīta Govinda, “Chandana Charchita.”

Through the delicate language of abhinaya, Priya explored the emotional and devotional landscape of Jayadeva’s poetry, portraying the nuances of longing, love, devotion and divine union with sensitivity and grace.

Her debut was not merely a presentation of technique, but an intimate dialogue between poetry, music, movement and emotion. Each glance, gesture and expression became a verse brought to life upon the stage.

For a young dancer, Rangapravesh marks a sacred threshold, the moment when years of sādhanā, discipline and Guru’s guidance find their first complete expression before an audience.

May Priya’s journey ahead continue to blossom with the same sincerity, devotion and artistic curiosity.

A New Chapter in Paramparā

With grace, discipline and an unmistakable spirit of dedication, Manashree Raha, disciple of Ach. Banhidwijaa Roy, stepped into a significant milestone of her artistic journey with her Rangapravesh recital at Parampara 2026, the Rangapravesh Ceremony of Mahabodhi Training and Research Centre of Arts, Tangla, Assam.

Her presentation of Batu Nritya reflected the sculptural geometry, rhythmic precision and devotional spirit of Odissi, while her rendition of Śaṅkarābharaṇa Pallavi unfolded with lyrical grace, intricate rhythmic patterns and a refined vocabulary of movement.

The Rangapravesh is not merely a debut upon the stage. It is a solemn acknowledgement of years of sādhanā, discipline, guru-sevā and devotion to the art.

For Manashree, this was the beginning of a new chapter, carrying forward the knowledge received from her Guru while taking her own place within the living continuum of Paramparā.

May this Rangapravesh mark the beginning of a lifelong journey of learning, exploration and artistic excellence.

The Ancient Voice of Charyā

A profound journey into the esoteric world of Mūl Charyā Nritya unfolded at Parampara 2026, the Rangapravesh Ceremony of Mahabodhi Training and Research Centre of Arts, Tangla, Assam, with a captivating recital by Gitika Saha, disciple of Ach. Banhidwijaa Roy.

Gitika presented a Charyā pada of Mahāsiddha Luipa, set to Rāga Bhup and Ādi Tāla, bringing to life the meditative, symbolic and deeply spiritual vocabulary of this ancient Buddhist ta***ic dance tradition.

The composition and choreography were conceived by Ach. Banhidwijaa Roy, whose continued research and practice seek to preserve, revive and present the profound heritage of Mūl Charyā Nritya to contemporary audiences.

Through movement, rhythm and inner expression, Gitika’s recital became more than a performance. It was an invocation of an ancient tradition, where the body becomes the vessel, movement becomes mantra, and dance becomes a path towards awakening.

Some artists do not merely accompany a performance, they become an inseparable part of its very soul.

Shri Debarup Ghosh, one of the founding members of Mahabodhi, has been an integral part of our journey since its inception in 2017 at Tangla, Assam. A dedicated Mardala player, he has devoted his artistry to the accompaniment and propagation of Odissi music, enriching every performance with the profound rhythmic language of the Mardala.

It was a privilege and a moment of deep gratitude for Mahabodhi Training and Research Centre of Arts to felicitate Shri Debarup Ghosh on the occasion of the Rangapravesh Ceremony, Parampara 2026, in recognition of his invaluable contribution, steadfast association and dedication to the artistic journey of Mahabodhi.

We were especially blessed to have his Mardala accompaniment for “CHĀLI MANJUSHĀ”, an original composition and dance choreography by Ach. Banhidwijaa Roy, presented by his Rangapravesh disciples Priya, Sreejitaa and Manashree.

From the first steps of Mahabodhi in 2017 to the grand unfolding of Parampara 2026, Shri Debarup Ghosh remains a cherished thread in our artistic tapestry.

To the rhythm that sustains the dance, to the artists who remain through the years, and to the spirit of Parampara that binds us all.

An evening of exquisite abhinaya, grace and profound artistic expression unfolded at Parampara 2026, the Rangapravesh Ceremony of Mahabodhi Training and Research Centre of Arts, Tangla, Assam, with the captivating Odissi performance of Smt. Santasree Sasmal.

A senior disciple of Guru Rosaline Mohapatra and the Rudraksh Foundation of Odisha, Smt. Santasree Sasmal continues to carry forward the timeless grammar, aesthetics and spiritual essence of Odissi. As an Odissi trainee based in Austin, Texas, USA, she represents the enduring journey of Indian classical dance across geographical boundaries, connecting tradition with a global artistic landscape.

Her performance at Parampara 2026 was a beautiful confluence of discipline, devotion and refined artistry, leaving an indelible impression upon the audience.

Adding an especially significant moment to the occasion, Smt. Santasree Sasmal was conferred with the ACHARYĀ RATNA SAMMĀNANĀ, the highest honour bestowed by Mahabodhi upon teachers and gurus in the field of Performing Arts, by the Director of Mahabodhi, Ach. Banhidwijaa Roy, on 8 August 2026.

The honour recognises not merely artistic excellence, but the sacred responsibility of carrying knowledge, tradition and cultural heritage from one generation to another.

Nṛtya, Sādhanā & Scholarship

It was a profound blessing to witness the exquisite Thanjavur-style Bharatanatyam performance by Miss Runu Bhattacharya at Parampara 2026, the Rangapravesh Ceremony of Mahabodhi Training and Research Centre of Arts, Tangla, Assam.

A PhD Scholar in Performing Arts, specialising in Dance (Bharatanatyam), at Banaras Hindu University, Miss Runu Bhattacharya embodies a beautiful confluence of scholarship, discipline and artistic sādhanā. Her performance reflected the elegance, precision and expressive depth of the Bharatanatyam tradition, leaving the audience deeply moved.

It was also an honour for Mahabodhi to confer upon her the NṚTYA BODHI SAMMĀNANĀ, in recognition of her dedication to the field of Indian classical dance and her contribution to the living tradition of Bharatanatyam.

Her presence at Parampara 2026 reminded us that when rigorous knowledge meets devoted practice, dance becomes more than an art form, it becomes a pathway to deeper understanding and spiritual expression.

A performance witnessed with gratitude, an honour bestowed with pride, and a moment cherished as part of the living Parampara.

An evocative Odissi Mangalacharan was presented by Aahana Sharma, Shivashree Das and Snobhika Chakravorty, disciples of Ach. Banhidwijaa Roy, at Parampara 2026, the Rangapravesh Ceremony of Mahabodhi Training and Research Centre of Arts, Tangla.

Rooted in devotion, grace and the timeless vocabulary of Odissi, the performance offered a beautiful invocation to the divine and celebrated the sacred journey of young dancers stepping into the classical tradition. 🌸

The ceremony was held on 8 August 2026 at Shaheed Sujit Narzary Auditorium, marking a memorable evening dedicated to the preservation, practice and transmission of our rich cultural heritage.
