A General Meeting was organised yesterday on the occasion of the 30th Foundation Day of Tangla English Medium High School. Mr Tarun Azad Deka, noted social and cultural activist, graced the event as its chief guest. Notable educators, litterateurs and socio-cultural activists from the region were invited and felicitated in the meeting.
In his welcome address, the Managing Director of the School Trust, Mr Jayanta Kumar Chakravarty spoke of the circumstances leading to the foundation of the school and its educational journey through the last three decades. Remembering the contribution of the deceased trust members, teachers and employees, Mr Chakravarty also paid homage to them.
Mr Ghateswar Barua, the President of Tangla Sahitya Sabha, praised the role played by TEMHS in moulding the students for 30 years and spoke about the changing mindsets of the students as well as the guardians and emphasised on character building and holistic all-round development in school children.
Mr Tarun Azad Deka mentioned that programmes like Foundation Day Celebrations help us to look back and to assess how well the school has been able to fulfil its purpose. He made a comparison between the early and present system of education and criticized the role of the government for the failure and closure of many schools. He also highlighted how current government school teachers are overburdened by administrative work which hampers their primary objective of teaching.
The principal, Mr Tapan Bhattacharjee offered the vote of thanks. He also thanked the parents and concerned people of the region for their continued support and asked for their guidance in continuing the noble mission of the school.
The meeting was conducted by Mr Pulakesh Das, ARS – an alumnus of the school. The members of the TEMHS fraternity are immensely grateful to all guests, guardians, alumni and the well-wishers of the school for making the event a success.
The TEMHS fraternity is especially thankful to Mrs Binu Devi, retired teacher of Tangla Girls High School, who donated ₹25,000/- for the school library. Her contribution would go a long way in helping the young students of the school.
