Butis bargabhimae sp. nov., a new species of butid fish (Teleostei: Gobiiformes: Butidae) from the Rupnarayan River, Purba Medinipur, West Bengal, has been discovered recently. One of the major discoverer is Dr. Priti Ranjan Pahari, Associate Professor, Department of Zoology, Tamralipta Mahavidyalaya, Tamluk. Through detailed scientific research and analysis, the fish was identified as a distinct species of the genus Butis. This discovery highlights the rich aquatic biodiversity of the Rupnarayan River and contributes significantly to ichthyological (refers to the scientific study of fishes, covering their anatomy, physiology, behavior, evolution, and classification) research and biodiversity studies in the region.

Today, on 28.02.2026, Saturday, Dr. Abdul Motin (DoJ 25.06.2018), Principal of Tamralipta Mahavidyalaya, formally handed over charge to Prof. Sanchita Mukherjee, the senior-most teacher, who will serve as the Teacher-in-Charge of the college on and from 01.03.2026. The proceedings were conducted in the august presence of Dr. Anirban Chattopadhyay, DyDPI, Higher Education Department, who has recently been appointed as the Administrator of the college.
All the faculty members, staff, and students present extended their heartfelt congratulations and deep respect to Dr. Motin in recognition of his tireless efforts and dedicated contributions toward the holistic academic and administrative development of the college.
Prof. Mukherjee was also warmly congratulated by the assembly for accepting the responsibility of Teacher-in-Charge of the college, with a shared vision of striving toward a better and more developed tomorrow.

A One Day National Level Workshop on Ancient Indian Scriptology (Paleography) was organized by the Department of Sanskrit & IQAC of Tamralipta Mahavidyalaya on 18 February 2026 at the Seminar Hall. The programme began with registration and an inaugural session featuring welcome and keynote addresses by distinguished academicians. Five technical sessions were conducted by eminent scholars from various institutions, focusing on different aspects of ancient Indian scripts and manuscript traditions. The workshop concluded with a valedictory session and vote of thanks. The event provided valuable academic insights and enriched participants’ knowledge of India’s scriptural heritage.

On 25th April 2025, Friday, the President of the Governing Body, Prof. (Dr.) Saumen Kumar Mahapatra, laid the foundation stone of the Vidyasagar Bicentenary Building within the premises of Tamralipta Mahavidyalaya. The proposed building is designed to house the Central Library, multiple laboratories, and additional classrooms. The foundation ceremony was held in the presence of the Principal, members of the Governing Body, faculty members, students, and alumni of the institution. The construction of the building is presently underway.

On 10th February, 2026, Tuesday, Tamralipta Mahavidyalaya organized an International-Level Workshop on ā€œCareer Opportunities and Data Science Skillsā€ in hybrid mode. The workshop was jointly conducted by IQAC in collaboration with Ribita Technology Pvt. Ltd., Dhakuria, Kolkata. The programme featured distinguished speakers from both academia and industry. The sessions focused on key areas such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, career guidance, and strengthening industry–academia collaboration. The Principal, faculty members, and students participated enthusiastically in the event. From 28th to 30th January 2026, Tamralipta Mahavidyalaya achieved remarkable success at the Inter-College District Athletics Meet organized by Vidyasagar University. The Girls’ Group delivered an outstanding performance and secured the Runner-up position in the competition. In the women’s events, the college clinched 1st place in the 1500m Run and 800m Run, along with 3rd place in Discus Throw and Shot Put. In the men’s events, the athletes secured 1st position in High Jump and achieved 2nd place in Shot Put, Long Jump, and Discus Throw.
