*Learning Surface Design through History*...Surfaces are not merely two-dimensional planes; they are narratives in themselves. They tell stories, express values, communicate techniques, reveal materiality, and embody both the passage of time and the idea of timelessness. Understanding these multiple dimensions of “surfaces” helps us recognize them as an integral part of the larger design story.
Exploring this idea, an interesting session on *“The Evolution of Surface Design”* was conducted by *Prof. Naishadh Jani and by Prof. Tejas Patel* through the study of historic monuments, tracing the transformation of surface expressions from Ancient Egypt to the Gothic Period, for the students of *BID II SEM III*, as part of *”Habitat Studio”*. The session explored how materials, craftsmanship, techniques, ornamentation, symbolism, and cultural values evolved across different periods, and how surfaces became powerful tools for expressing the identity and character of architecture.

🏠 MS-IDPT × ROOH – SPARC Collaboration
Under the MoU between MS Institute of Design, Planning & Technology, Sarvajanik University and Roof Over Our Heads (ROOH), an insightful Expert Session on the Ground Reality of Informal Housing Settlements was organised for the B.Arch Semester VII – Human Settlement Planning (Housing Theories) course on 12th August 2026 at 2:00pm.
The ROOH Secretariat gave a brief online introduction about SPARC and ROOH, followed by practical insights into SPARC’s fieldwork and the complexities of working with informal settlements.

The session helped students understand informalities beyond housing, highlighting the importance of community engagement, contextual understanding, and people-centred approaches in architectural practice. The interaction received positive engagement from the students and faculty and opened possibilities for future academic and field-based collaboration.

Venomous Snake Handling & Awareness Drive by Natureclub Surat

Today, our students from Architecture, Interior Design, Visual Arts, and Dance participated in a Snake Handling & Venomous Snake Awareness Drive as part of our Liberal Life Skills initiative.

At our institute, we believe that education extends far beyond classroom walls. Experiences like these equip students with practical knowledge, build confidence, promote environmental awareness, and teach them how to respond responsibly in real-life situations.

Because true learning isn’t just about books—it’s about understanding the world around us. 🌿✨
