Mohammed Siddiquee from Lucknow was announced a Global Icon this year at the iKen Scientifica 2011-12 International Finals. Soon he will be visiting NASA space center, USA along with six other Global Icons of iKen Scientifica 2011-12. The 14 year old boy is in class nine at Kendriya Vidyalaya in Gomati Nagar, Lucknow. He is the son of Seema Parveen and Harun Siddiquee. His mother is a housewife and his father, a school van driver. He comes from a humble background but he didn’t have to remain a stranger to his talent due to the lack of privileges and exposure.
Mohammed Siddiquee proved lucky since he was surrounded by people who recognised his spark and didn’t leave it at that. His journey to being a Global Icon is one that inspires and restores faith in humanity. His school noticed his keen interest and knowledge in science and didn’t think twice before enrolling him to an iKen Scientifica workshop. They were aware that his father is pulling two jobs at a time to barely meet the requirements for fees. At the workshop also his local iKen Associate Praveen Shrivastav could not miss the boy’s interest and urge to learn.
Mohammed Siddiquee managed to come so far in this competition and earn his rightful place with the help of these people and he is no stranger to their help. He knows he has been helped; he acknowledges it every time he speaks of his success and never forgets to thank them for their faith and efforts.
Team iKen Scientifica was beaming with pride when the boy’s name was announced. It was a joyous moment for us and one that we can keep close to our hearts. It was a positive affirmation of our efforts and ideology. We are always happy to come across such exemplary stories that we can share and cherish. We’d like to congratulate Mohammed Siddiquee for his performance and achievement.
iKen Scientifica is a one-of-its-kind platform focused on fostering innovative ideas amongst children where they explore and experiment with their curiosity. From prototyping scientific innovations and social improvement models to sumo robot wrestling and life size chess tournaments, iKen Scientifica presents a hands-on learning experience for students. It develops life skills covered through team building, leadership, communication and presentation.
