Lesson 1 for improving communication skills .

There are many different aspects to effective communication, but some key skills include active listening, being clear and concise in your speech or writing, being able to adapt your communication style to your audience, and being able to read and interpret nonverbal cues.

Active Listening: It involves paying full attention to the speaker, withholding judgment and providing verbal and nonverbal feedback that you are engaged.

Clarity: Speak and write clearly, using simple language and avoiding jargon or complex vocabulary.

Adaptability: Tailor your communication style to your audience, taking into account factors such as their level of understanding, their communication preferences, and the context of the conversation.

Reading Nonverbal Cues: Observe the body language and tone of voice of the person you are communicating with, which can provide important information about their feelings and intentions.

Empathy: Understanding and sharing the feelings of others.

Confidence: Being able to express your ideas and opinions clearly and assertively.

Being a Good Conversationalist: Being able to ask good questions, keeping the conversation flowing, and being able to steer it towards a productive outcome.

Remember, communication is a two-way street, and effective communication requires both speaking and listening. Practice these skills regularly to improve your communication abilities.

I love this analogy!

You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shakes your arm, making you spill your coffee everywhere. Why did you spill the coffee?

"Well because someone bumped into me, of course!"

Wrong answer. You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup. Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea. Whatever is inside the cup, is what will spill out.

Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you, (which WILL happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It's easy to fake it, until you get rattled.

So we have to ask ourselves...

โ€œWhatโ€™s in my cup?"

When life gets tough, what spills over?

Joy, gratefulness, peace and humility?

Or anger, bitterness, harsh words and reactions?

You choose!

Today let's work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation; and kindness, gentleness and love for others.

Tip 21 # Bloomm Education
Some idioms which you can add while having a conversation. An idiom is a phrase or an expression that has a particular meaning that differs from the meaning of the individual words, e.g. if someone said โ€œyouโ€™ve bitten off more than you can chewโ€- they are saying that you have tried to do something that is too difficult for you.

Practice these idioms when you are learning English or impress your friends and your teachers by explaining what they mean:

1.Better late than never
This expression means that it is better to arrive late than not at all. However, we donโ€™t advise you turn up late for your English lessons and say this phrase to the teacher!

2. Hang in there

Your friend may be struggling with their English lessons, by which you could respond with โ€˜hang in thereโ€™, which means keep trying and donโ€™t give up with it.
