Hyperopia

Far-sightedness, also known as long-sightedness and hyperopia, is a condition of the eye in which light is focused behind, instead of on, the retina. This causes close objects to be blurry, while far objects may appear normal. As the condition worsens, objects at all distances may be blurred. Other symptoms may include headaches and eye strain. People with hyperopia can also experience accommodative dysfunction, binocular dysfunction, amblyopia, and strabismus.

The cause is an imperfection in the eye: often when the eyeball is too short, or the lens cannot become round enough. It is a type of refractive error.

Correction is usually achieved by the use of convex corrective lenses. For near objects, the eye has to accommodate even more. Depending on the degree of hyperopia and the age of the person, which directly relates to the eye's accommodative ability, the symptoms can be different.

Far-sightedness primarily affects young children, with rates of 8% at 6 years and 1% at 15 years.

Signs and symptoms

The signs and symptoms of far-sightedness are blurry vision, headaches, and eye strain. The common symptom is eye strain. Difficulty seeing with both eyes (binocular vision) may occur, as well as difficulty with depth perception.

Causes

Human eye cross-section
As hyperopia is the result of the visual image being focused behind the retina, it has two main causes:

Low converging power of eye lens because of weak action of ciliary muscles
Abnormal shape of the cornea
Far-sightedness is often present from birth, but children have a very flexible eye lens, which helps make up for the problem. In rare instances hyperopia can be due to diabetes, and problems with the blood vessels in the retina.

Myopia:

Short-sightedness and myopia, is a condition of the eye where light focuses in front of, instead of on, the retina. This causes distant objects to be blurry while close objects appear normal. Other symptoms may include headaches and eye strain. Severe near-sightedness increases the risk of retinal detachment, cataracts, and glaucoma.

The underlying cause is believed to be a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Risk factors include doing work that involves focusing on close objects, greater time spent indoors, and a family history of the condition. It is also associated with a high socioeconomic class. The underlying mechanism involves the length of the eyeball being too long or less commonly the lens being too strong. It is a type of refractive error. Diagnosis is by eye examination.

There is tentative evidence that near-sightedness can be prevented by having young children spend more time outside. This may be related to natural light exposure. Near-sightedness can be corrected with eyeglasses, contact lenses, or surgery. Eyeglasses are the easiest and safest method of correction. Contact lenses can provide a wider field of vision; however are associated with a risk of infection. Refractive surgery permanently changes the shape of the cornea.

Protein

Levels of biological organism:

Biological organization starts with submicroscopic molecular level passes through microscopic cellular level and microscopic or macroscopic organism's level and ends in ecosystem and the biosphere.

Atoms are the lowest unit at the molecular level while the cells are smallest unit at microscopic level. Atoms combine to form molecules, which undergo chemical reactions to form organelles. Several organelles are contained in the cell. A group of cells meant for a specific function constitutes a tissue. In the organisms above tissue level of organisation, many tissues become engaged to form a particular organ, such as liver, stomach, lung, te**is, o***y, etc. for a specific function. A system emerges when many organs take up a particular life process, such as digestive system, respiratory system, reproductive system, etc.

The living things are called organisms. An organism, in turn contains many individuals. Group of individuals that sexually interbreed form a species. Individuals form populations. A localised group of organisms belonging to the same species constitutes a population. Populations of different species living in the same area make up a biological community. Community interactions, integrated with the non- living features of the environment form an ecosystem. Within the ecosystem, an individual forms the smallest unit. A larger unit than ecosystem is the landscape, which is a geographical unit with a history. It shapes the feature of the land and organisms that inhabit it.

Analysing the living things:

Cell is the basic structural unit of living organism. When a group of cells is meant for a specific function it constitutes a tissue. The tissue organises themselves into organs, which in combination with several organs, emerge as an organ system. Several systems are present and required to perform diverse life processes in a multicellular organism.
