Remembering the unsung warriors of the great Santal awakening against the British rule in Santal Pargana.

In the popular history, the revolt of 1857 is considered to be the first war of independence against the British yet there were many revolts much before it. And the Santal rebellion being one of the landmark rebellion.

30th June, 1855: The day when around 10,000 Santala gathered at Bhognadih village of Sahibganj under the leadership of Sido Murmu and Kanhu Murmu. And along with them Chand, Bhairo, Phulo and Jhano, siblings of the prominent leaders also joined the hands for the revolt.

The Santals fought with bows and arrows against British troops who were armed with gunpowder weapons. It was an unequal conflict but Santals put up a brave fight till the end.
