This is the town from where two of the illustrious Alwars of Vaishanavite culture emerged, Perialwar and Andal through their contributions to both Tamil Literature and religious movement in the seventh century. The temple of Vadapathra Sayee in Srivilliputhur serviced by Perialwar is a standing monument of the religious and cultural heritage. The Insignia of Tamil Nadu is the temple town of Vadapathra Sayee, the presiding deity of the town. It is the birthplace of Andal, a devotee of Lord Krishna, who through her 30 verses of Thiruppavai added value to Tamil Literature. It is also the birthplace of Shri Guru Gnana Sambandar. The town reverberates with an intellectual heritage spanned over fourteen centuries. It is only fitting that a school initiated 120 years ago has added to the glory and luster of the town. Sethu Rao and Rama Rao started a small primary school in a small mandapam in the Valaikulam Street in Srivilliputhur - 626 125 (birth place of Andal) in the present Virudunagar District, Tamil Nadu. As the strength of girls grew, a separate girls school was started in one of the buildings which houses the earlier co-educational school. Then a separate elementary school was also started. The school grew from strength to strength. In 1951, the HHS was named Guru Gnana Sambandar H.H.S. after His Holiness Guru Gnana Sambandar who was born in this holy town. The other two schools under the management of the H.H.S. Committee are Maharajapuram Nagammal Rasaiah National Girls' High School and Maharajapuram Draupadi Ammal Hindu Elementary School. Rated as one of the finest Higher Educational Institutions in Tamil Nadu, the schools have, over the years, given to our country a host of eminent intellectuals, politicians, scientists, artists, entrepreneurs, IAS officers, judges of the High Court and the Supreme Court, Poets, etc.
