Plantation Drive at GDC Beerwah:
Date: 06/04/2026
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Government Degree College Beerwah successfully organized a day-long plantation drive on 6th April 2026 as part of a Union Territory-level environmental initiative led by the Higher Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir. The larger campaign was spearheaded by Ms Sakinaltoo, Hon’ble Minister for Higher Education, with the aim of promoting environmental awareness and sustainability across educational institutions in the region.
At the college level, the plantation drive was conducted under the able supervision of the Principal, Prof. Tabassum Lone, whose leadership ensured the smooth ex*****on of the event. The programme was efficiently coordinated by Dr. Qazi Ashiq Hussain, Head of the Department of Environmental Science, who played a key role in organizing and guiding the activities.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of students, including NSS volunteers and NCC cadets, along with both teaching and non-teaching staff members. This collective involvement reflected a strong sense of environmental responsibility and community spirit within the college.
During the drive, more than 120 saplings of coniferous plants were planted across the college campus. The plantation activity was carried out with a commitment to long-term environmental stewardship. The college administration and participants pledged to nurture and maintain the saplings to ensure their healthy growth, thereby contributing to ecological balance, environmental protection, and the beautification of the campus.
Significant contributions were made by NSS Coordinators Prof. Bashir Ahmad and Dr. Raashid Maqsood, as well as NCC Officer Prof. Mubeena, all of whom played active roles in mobilizing participants and ensuring the success of the initiative.
To encourage and appreciate the efforts of the participants, refreshments were provided to the students and 15 NCC cadets who took part in the drive. This gesture further motivated the volunteers and added to the overall positive spirit of the programme.
In conclusion, the plantation drive at Government Degree College Beerwah was a meaningful and impactful initiative that highlighted the importance of environmental conservation. The active participation and commitment displayed by all stakeholders reaffirm the institution’s dedication to creating a greener and more sustainable future
