UIDAI Regional Office Chandigarh Undertakes Massive Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) Drive Across J&K; Mega Camp Held at Hajin Bandipora
Bandipora, September 26: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Regional Office Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Directorate of Samagra Shiksha, School Education Department, Jammu and Kashmir, has launched a large-scale Mandatory Biometric Update (MBU) drive across the Union Territory, covering both Government and Private Schools.
As part of this initiative, a mega Aadhaar MBU camp was successfully organized at the ZEO Office Hajin, Bandipora. The camp was held under the supervision of Chief Education Officer (CEO) Bandipora, Altaf Hussain Tara, accompanied by ZEO Hajin, DNO Aadhaar, SAMAGRA Incharge, ZNOs and Aadhaar heads. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of students, parents, and school authorities, ensuring smooth biometric updates without disrupting academic schedules. The effort has significantly enhanced outreach in rural areas.
Currently in its first phase, the MBU drive has established biometric update camps across 1,800 schools in J&K. The focus remains on children in the age groups of 0–5 years and 15–17 years, which are crucial for Aadhaar biometric updates. The exercise ensures accuracy in Aadhaar records, reducing errors related to names, dates of birth, and biometrics.
Accurate Aadhaar details play a vital role in enabling students to appear for competitive examinations such as JEE, NEET, UPSC, and other national-level tests, where Aadhaar-based verification is mandatory. Updated records also facilitate seamless access to scholarships, welfare schemes, higher education admissions, and services like passport issuance.
Officials from the Regional Office Chandigarh reiterated that Aadhaar is not just an identity document but an enabler of opportunities. Timely biometric updates safeguard students from potential hurdles in their educational and professional journey. The mission is being implemented in close coordination with state education departments, school authorities, and Aadhaar ecosystem partners, extending even to remote and hilly terrains.
State Project Manager UIDAI J&K, Shoaib Mohmad Khan, lauded the successful conduct of the mega Aadhaar camp at Hajin Bandipora. He urged parents to actively send their children for biometric updates to ensure their Aadhaar remains accurate and active.
CEO Bandipora also directed all ZEOs to actively participate in the exercise to ensure wide coverage. The drive will continue with the same momentum in the coming days, expanding across more schools in J&K, with the aim of reaching every eligible child and ensuring updated Aadhaar records.
