*Building Trust at Home Is the First Step Against Drug Abuse: BDO Ulfat Ali*

Bandipora , July 13: As part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, a "Maa Se Guftagoo" session was today held at Government Higher Secondary School (HSS) Ajas Bandipora.
The programme, chaired by Block Development Officer (BDO) Aloosa, Ulfat Ali, brought together local women particularly Anganwadi workers for an open discussion on the role of mothers in preventing drug abuse among the youth.
Interacting with the participants, Ulfat Ali said that the fight against the drug menace begins at home. She emphasized that mothers, through their love, care and constant support, are often the first to notice changes in their children's behaviour. By remaining alert and maintaining a healthy relationship with their children, they can play a decisive role in preventing them from substance abuse.
Highlighting the role of parent- children conversation, She stressed that regular conversations between parents and children help build trust and confidence. A child who feels comfortable sharing problems at home is less likely to seek unhealthy influences outside. She encouraged mothers to create an atmosphere where children can speak freely without fear of being judged.
On the occasion, one participant shared how she uses YouTube videos and educational content on her mobile phone to explain the harmful effects of drugs to her child.
Highlighting the initiatives taken by the District Administration, Ulfat Ali also spoke about the District Knowledge Centre and Nun Chai Talks. She said these platforms have been created to help people cope with stress, encourage healthy activities, and provide positive spaces where young people can engage constructively instead of falling into the trap of drugs.

CEO Bandipora Distributes ULLAS Learning Material, Calls for Accelerated Literacy Drive

Bandipora, July 2026:

As part of the ongoing implementation of the Understanding Lifelong Learning for All in Society (ULLAS) initiative, the Chief Education Officer (CEO) Bandipora, Mr. Rafeeq Ahmad Mir, today distributed ULLAS learning material among the Zonal Nodal Officers (ZNOs) of all five educational zones of the district for onward distribution among identified non-literates and neo-literates.

The distribution event was attended by the District Nodal Officer (DNO), ULLAS, Mr. Mir Irfan Maqbool along with officials from the CEO Office, Mr. Tufail Nazir and Mr. Farooq Ahmad.

During the event, the CEO handed over the learning material to the ZNOs with directions to ensure its timely distribution among beneficiaries so that the literacy mission reaches every eligible learner across the district. Stressing the importance of achieving the objectives of the ULLAS programme, Mr. Rafeeq Ahmad Mir (CEO Bandipora) instructed all ZNOs to intensify the process of identifying and registering the remaining non-literates and neo-literates on the NSBK ULLAS Portal. He emphasized that every possible effort should be made to achieve 100 percent literacy in District Bandipora before 2027, in line with the vision of the National Education Policy 2020 and the Government's commitment to universal literacy.

The CEO Bandipora further directed the ZNOs to identify a common venue in each zone for the distribution of certificates to learners who had successfully qualified in previous ULLAS assessments. He advised that these certificate distribution ceremonies be organised soon after the conclusion of the summer vacations, celebrating the achievements of newly literate citizens and showcasing their success stories. Such events, he said, would serve as a source of inspiration and motivation for other non-literates who are yet to enrol under the programme.

The event concluded with a renewed commitment from all stakeholders to strengthen grassroots implementation of ULLAS, ensuring wider community participation, enhanced enrolment, and sustained efforts towards making Bandipora a fully literate district well before the targeted timeline.
