As part of the Wipro Earthian Project, Class 11 students of GHSS Zadibal, conducted an interview with vegetable vendor who collect and harvest vegetables from Dal Lake and Nigeen Lake.

During the interaction, the students raised several important questions regarding the impact of pollution on the vendors’ livelihoods and the quality and availability of vegetables obtained from these water bodies.

The students particularly sought to understand how pollution in Dal Lake has affected their work, the extent to which deteriorating water quality has impacted the quality of vegetables, and the overall effect on their daily income and employment. They also discussed the impact of wastewater and drainage from local hotels, restaurants, and other establishments surrounding Dal Lake, particularly where such discharge ultimately enters the lake.

The interview provided the students with valuable first-hand insights into how environmental degradation and increasing pollution are directly affecting the livelihoods of local communities dependent on Dal and Nigeen Lakes. Through this interaction, the students also highlighted the urgent need for responsible waste and wastewater management and greater efforts towards the conservation and protection of these important water bodies.

Today, a detailed discussion was held with the 11th class students participating in the Wipro Earthian Project. The discussion focused on the preparation of the project write-up, including its proper structure, presentation, and the key aspects that need to be highlighted. Attention was also given to the remaining project activities, with emphasis on completing and documenting each activity effectively.

The discussion was further enriched by an interactive question-and-answer session, during which the students actively participated and raised several thoughtful and relevant questions. Their queries were addressed appropriately, providing them with greater clarity regarding the project requirements and expectations. The students demonstrated keen interest, enthusiasm, and active participation throughout the session, making it a productive and meaningful interaction.

On 19/08/2026, under the Wipro Earthian Project, students of ( GHSS ) Zadibal, participated in an informative seminar focused on biodiversity at Dachigam National Park. The session offered students valuable insights into the importance of biodiversity and enabled them to gain a deeper understanding of the region’s wildlife and its conservation.

The seminar was further enriched by the presence of animal rescuers, who shared valuable practical information about snakes and bears, including their behaviour, safety measures, and rescue-related aspects. Their interaction provided the students with an opportunity to learn about wildlife through real-life field experiences.

Overall, the seminar and the educational visit to Dachigam National Park proved to be a highly engaging and enriching experience for the students. They thoroughly enjoyed the visit while gaining meaningful knowledge and developing a greater appreciation for biodiversity, wildlife, and the importance of environmental conservation.

The successful implementation of the Wipro Earthian Project was made possible through the invaluable support of the Worthy Principal, Mr. Mohammad Shafi Lone, whose continuous guidance, cooperation, and facilitation of all necessary arrangements for the student group are truly commendable. The dedicated support, guidance, and active involvement of the teachers assigned to the Wipro Earthian Project also played a significant role in ensuring the smooth progress of the project and contributing to its successful implementation.

*From Ideas to Applause: Students Council’s Nexus 2026 Celebrates Young Talent*

*Zadibal, Srinagar*: The Government Girls Higher Secondary School Zadibal witnessed a vibrant and exhilarating celebration of creativity, talent and student leadership as the much-awaited Mega Talent Hunt – *Nexus 2026* was held on Thursday.

The event was proposed by the newly established *Students Council of GHSS Zadibal* as part of its endeavour to provide students with meaningful opportunities to showcase their talents, build confidence and develop their creative potential. The Council members played a significant role in the planning, coordination and smooth conduct of the event, demonstrating commendable initiative, teamwork and leadership.

The talent hunt featured four categories—Poetry, Speech, Art & Painting and Singing. More than 35 enthusiastic participants took part in the event, presenting impressive and lively performances that captivated the audience and created an atmosphere of excitement and celebration.

In Speech, *Taroob Beigh* secured the first position, followed by *Ibra Qayoon* at second and *Liba* at third. In Poetry, *Zarfa Zehra* emerged winner, while *Urwat Shabir* secured second and *Noureen Bashir* third position.

In Art & Painting, *Afra Khan* bagged the first position, *Maryam Koul* secured second, and *Duha* stood third. In Singing, *Maryam Koul* emerged victorious, followed by *Hafiza Rouf* at second and *Rutba Zehra* at third position.

The performances were assessed by distinguished panels of judges. Ms. Abida Rasool, Ms. Nousheen Safvi and Mr. Nazir Gillo were among the judging panel for Poetry and Speech, while Ms. Mahjabeen Nazir, Ms. Saba Mirza and Ms. Sameera judged Art & Painting and Singing. The judges appreciated the creativity, originality, confidence and stage presence displayed by the participants.

The event was particularly significant as it marked one of the first major initiatives undertaken by the newly constituted Students Council, reflecting the institution's vision of giving students greater opportunities to take responsibility, lead initiatives and contribute meaningfully to school life.

The Students Council expressed its sincere appreciation to the Principal, GHSS Zadibal, Mr. Mohammad Shafi Lone, for his proactive approach, constant encouragement and unwavering support throughout the event. His timely guidance and wholehearted response to the initiative provided the Council with the confidence and institutional support needed to organise Nexus 2026 successfully.

The active involvement of the Council members in organising and managing the event transformed the talent hunt into more than a competition. It became a celebration of student voice, leadership, creativity and self-expression. Their efforts demonstrated that when students are entrusted with responsibility and provided the right guidance, they can take ownership of initiatives and deliver them with remarkable enthusiasm and commitment.

Nexus 2026 thus emerged as a memorable and inspiring celebration of the diverse talents of the students of GHSS Zadibal, reaffirming the school's commitment to holistic education, experiential learning and student leadership.

Zarfa Zehra, Farwah Fatima and Ibra Qayoon, the Executive Members of the Council, were also specially appreciated and felicitated for their commendable efforts, confident stage presence and wonderful hosting of the programme, which added vibrancy and elegance to the event. Besides, Sana Zehra, Ayesha Tasleem and Zainab Shora, the remaining executives of the Council, were also appreciated for their sincere efforts in making this event a success.

Today, under the Wipro Earthian Project, the students of Class 11 from (GHSS) Zadibal enthusiastically participated in the Waste Scavenger Hunt and Water Conservation activities. As part of these experiential learning exercises, the students conducted an interview with one of the school staff members, asking thoughtfully prepared questions on various aspects of waste management and water conservation. Through this meaningful interaction, they gained valuable insights into sustainable waste management practices, the importance of conserving water resources, and the role of individual responsibility in environmental protection. The activities proved to be highly informative, engaging, and enriching, providing the students with practical knowledge and a memorable learning experience while fostering a deeper sense of environmental awareness and responsibility.

Today, the students of Class 11 from Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Zadibal had the valuable opportunity to interview Kashmir’s renowned environmentalist, Dr. Touseef Ahmed, as part of the Wipro Earthian Project 2026.
Before the interview, the Worthy Principal, Mr. Mohammad Shafi Lone, provided the students with valuable guidance and encouraged them to approach the interaction with confidence, curiosity, and a strong spirit of learning.
The interview was conducted at Dr. Touseef Ahmed’s office, where he shared valuable insights into a range of environmental issues. He spoke in detail about the significance of environmental conservation and highlighted practical measures to reduce the use of polythene while promoting more sustainable and eco-friendly practices.
The students asked several thoughtful and well-prepared questions, particularly focusing on biodiversity, environmental protection, and the role of individuals in conserving natural resources. Dr. Touseef Ahmed expressed his appreciation for the students’ curiosity and the depth of their questions, remarking that such insightful questions are rarely asked even by professional journalists. He also assured the students that he would visit GHSS Zadibal in the first week of September.
The interaction proved to be highly enriching, offering the students a deeper understanding of the environmental challenges we face today and reinforcing the importance of collective responsibility. Overall, it was a memorable and inspiring learning experience that allowed the students to engage directly with an experienced environmentalist and gain meaningful insights into environmental sustainability.
