In Mukhtasar al-Akhdari and other Maaliki books there is an indication that it is haraam to shake hands with a non-mahram woman according to the madhhab of Maalik (may Allah have mercy on him).

‘Aleesh said in Minah al-Jaleel Sharh Mukhtasar Khaleel (1/22): It is not permissible for a man to touch the face or hand of a non-mahram woman, and it is not permissible for them to put their hands together without a barrier. ‘Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) never accepted the oath of allegiance (bay‘ah) of a woman by holding her hand; he would accept women’s oath of allegiance verbally. According to another report: His hand never touched the hand of a woman; rather he would accept their oath of allegiance verbally. End quote.

While the Prophet was saying
something in a gathering, a
Bedouin came and asked him,
"When would the Hour
(Doomsday) take place?" Allah's
Apostle continued his talk, so
some people said that Allah's
Apostle had heard the question,
but did not like what that
Bedouin had asked. Some of them
said that Alllah's Apostle had not
heard it. When the Prophet
finished his speech, he said,
"Where is the questioner, who
enquired about the Hour
(Doomsday)?" The Bedouin said,
"I am here, O Allah's Apostle ."
Then the Prophet said, "When
honesty is lost, then wait for the
Hour (Doomsday)." The Bedouin
said, "How will that be lost?" The
Prophet said, "When the power
or authority comes in the hands
of unfit persons, then wait for
the Hour (Doomsday.)"

THE MEANING OF ISLAM:
Nearly every religion in the world has named after either the person it has been associated with or the people or nation from which it originated.christianity,for example,derives its name from jesus christ;Buddhism from Gautama Buddha;zoroastrainism from Zoroaster;and judaism,the religion of the jews,takes its name from both the tribe of judah and the country of judea where it was born.the same is true of other religions.But not so with islam.This religion enjoys the unique distinction of having on such association with any particular person or people.
The word "Islam"does not convey any such relationship for it does not belong to any person,people or country.Nor it is the product of human mind.it is the universal religion and its objective is to creat and cultivate within man the quality and attitude of islam.

Volume 3, Book 31, Number 115 :
Narrated by Talha bin 'Ubaid-Ullah
A bedouin with unkempt hair came to Allah's Apostle and said, "O Allah's Apostle! Inform me what Allah has made compulsory for me as regards the prayers." He replied: "You have to offer perfectly the five compulsory prayers ina day and night (24 hours), unless you want to pray Nawafil." The bedouin further asked, "Inform me what Allah has made compulsory for me as regardsfasting." He replied, "You have to fast during the whole month of Ramadan, unless you want to fast more as Nawafil." The bedouin further asked,"Tell me how much Zakat Allah has enjoined on me." Thus, Allah's Apostle informed him about all the rules (i.e. fundamentals) of Islam. The bedouin then said, "By Him Who has honored you, I will neither perform any Nawafil nor will I decrease what Allah has enjoined on me. Allah's Apostle said, "Ifhe is saying the truth, he will succeed (or he will be granted Paradise)."

Volume 2, Book 13, Number 1 :
Narrated by Abu Huraira
I heard Allah's Apostle (p.b.u.h) saying,"We (Muslims) are the last (to come) but (will be) the foremost on the Day ofResurrection though the former nations were given the Holy Scriptures before us. And this was their day (Friday) the celebration of which was made compulsory for them but they differed about it. So Allah gave us the guidance for it (Friday) and all the otherpeople are behind us in this respect: theJews' (holy day is) tomorrow (i.e. Saturday) and the Christians' (is) the day after tomorrow (i.e. Sunday)."
