Awareness Against Drugs and Parental Responsibility — An Intellectual and Reformative Program
In today’s turbulent era, when society is increasingly affected by various moral and social evils, the menace of drugs has posed serious threats, particularly to the younger generation. In such critical circumstances, the responsibility of educational and religious institutions becomes even more significant—not only to provide quality education but also to guide the youth in the right direction.
With this sense of responsibility, on 27 April 2026, Abuseena Educational Institute, Dana Mazar Safa Kadal, Srinagar organized a grand, purposeful, and thought-provoking program titled: “Awareness Against Drugs and the Responsibilities of Parents.”
The program was attended by distinguished scholars, notably Maulana Sajid Mazahiri and Maulana Syed Waris Shah Bukhari (President, Central Coordination of Imams of Mosques Jammu & Kashmir, and Member, Muslim Personal Law Board Jammu & Kashmir). A large number of parents and teachers were also present. The event commenced in a serious and purposeful atmosphere, highlighting key aspects of social reform.
In his address, Maulana Syed Waris Shah Bukhari expressed deep concern over the rapidly spreading evils in society, particularly the increasing trend of drug abuse. He stated that drugs do not only affect an individual but push entire families and society toward destruction. If the youth—who represent the future of any nation—fall victim to this menace, the very foundations of the nation are weakened.
Addressing parents directly, he emphasized the need to pay close attention to their children’s upbringing, monitor their environment, friendships, and activities, and connect them with religious education and moral values so they can distinguish between right and wrong.
Similarly, Maulana Sajid Mazahiri elaborated on the responsibilities of parents. He stated that children are a great trust from Allah, and it is the duty of parents not only to fulfill their material needs but also to ensure their religious and moral upbringing. Negligence in this responsibility will make parents accountable before Allah on the Day of Judgment. He emphasized that giving time to children, guiding them, and protecting them from bad company are among the foremost duties of parents.
At the conclusion of the program, Maulana Syed Waris Shah Bukhari thanked the institute’s principal, Mr. Tariq Ahmad Wani, the teachers, and the parents. He described such reformative programs as a pressing need of the time and stated that if educational institutions consistently organize such initiatives, they can bring about positive and lasting change in society.
On this occasion, the principal expressed his commitment to organizing such meaningful programs on a monthly basis to raise awareness among students and parents, ultimately contributing to the formation of a healthy, civilized, and dignified society.
Conclusion:
This program was not merely an educational activity but a movement for intellectual and social reform. If parents, teachers, and society collectively understand and fulfill their responsibilities, it is certainly possible to eliminate the menace of drugs and provide the new generation with a bright, pure, and secure future.
