Walk-in Reading Session Held on World Book, Copyright Day
Under the able guidance of Worthy Principal, Prof. (Dr.) Huda Galzai, the Habba
Khatoon Library and Reading Club of Govt. College for Women Nawakadal
organized a Walk-in Reading Session on April 27 to commemorate the World
Book and Copyright Day.
The programme began with a welcome address by Rukhsana Shawl, (College
Librarian) who emphasized the importance of reading in shaping knowledge,
critical thinking, and intellectual growth among students. She also highlighted the
vital role of libraries in fostering a culture of learning and reflection.
The session featured a reading and discussion of How to Judge Globalization by
Amartya Sen. The essay provided valuable insights into globalization,
emphasizing the need to assess it in terms of human well-being and equitable
access to opportunities.
Dr. Amir Sadiq(Convenor Reading club) acted as the Reader and presented the
essay in an engaging and insightful manner. Dr Amir Sadiq presented insightful
reading and valuable perspectives that enriched the session. The first half of the
session was moderated by Dr. Sameer Ahmad, while the second half was
moderated by Dr. Danish Nabi, both of whom facilitated thoughtful and
interactive discussions.
A question-and-answer session was also conducted, in which both students and
faculty actively participated by sharing their perspectives and raising insightful
queries, making the session more dynamic and enriching.The programme
witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members and students,
contributing to a lively and intellectually stimulating atmosphere.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Rukhsana Shawl,
who expressed her sincere gratitude to all for their valuable presence and
contributions in making the programme a success.

PLANTATION DRIVE UNDER THE BANNER OF NASHA MUKHT BHARAT ABHIYAN
Government College for Women Nawakadal represented by the Faculty, Nonteaching
and the students from the Department of Botany under the dynamic
guidance of worthy Principal Prof. (Dr.) Huda Galzai, collaborated in the mega
plantation drive jointly organized by District Administration Srinagar and the
Urban Forestry Division of the district under the banner of Nasha Mukht Bharat
Abhiyan (NMBA), held on 27/04/2026 at National Highway near Lasjan Srinagar.
The programme was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar as the Chief
Guest. On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted importance of
plantation for environmental conservation, pollution control, and sustainable
development. He appreciated the efforts of all participants in promoting green
initiatives.
Faculty members, Officers/Officials, Students and volunteers actively
participated in the drive and planted a large number of tree saplings on the
national highway at Lasjan Srinagar. The event aimed to enhance green cover
and spread awareness regarding the protection of the environment under NMBA.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by the Chief Guest to
collaborators and all participants for making the plantation drive a grand success.

Nasha Mukt Abhiyan: Women College Nawakadal Organises Awareness Rally, Marathon
Under the banner of Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, an Awareness Rally and Marathon was organised by the CWASC in collaboration with College Sports Committee and NCC Unit of Govt. College for Women Nawakadal, Srinagar on April 27.
The programme, held under the patronage of Principal Prof (Dr) Huda Galzai, commenced with an awareness rally from the college campus to Safakadal Chowk, aiming to spread a strong message against drug abuse and to promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle in youth.
This was followed by a marathon in which students participated enthusiastically, showcasing their commitment towards the cause.
All students and faculty members actively took part in the event.
The programme was attended by the Nodal officer CWASC Dr Nuzhat Jan and Dr Waseem, Convenor College Sports committee Rukhsana Shawl and NCC officer Prof Humeera Yousuf. The other faculty members from CWASC and Sports committee who participated in the event included Dr Rashma Siraj, Dr Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, Dr Mahjabeen, and Dr Bilquees.
On the occasion, the principal, Prof. (Dr.) Huda Galzai, appreciated the efforts of the organisers and participants.
She emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in combating drug abuse and encouraged students to become ambassadors of a drug-free society.
She highlighted that such initiatives were crucial in building awareness and fostering a culture of health, discipline, and social responsibility among the youth.
The event concluded successfully with a renewed pledge by all participants to support the vision of a drug-free society.

As part of its ongoing Youth Engagement and Empowerment Program, the District Administration Srinagar organized the Inter-College debate titled "Skill Development, Not Delivery of Formal Education Should be the Priority of Government Today" at A. S. College Srinagar. The event served as a platform for young voices to weigh in on the critical shift toward vocational expertise in the job market. While speakers argued for both against and for the motion, Hadia Binti Rouf, a student from GCW Nawakadal impressed the panel of judges with her articulation and ability to reconcile opposing viewpoints, ultimately being declared the winner of the Rolling Trophy Inter-College Debate.
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo presided over the valedictory function and felicitated the participants and winners.

Botany Department boosts green awareness!
On Annual Arbor Day, under the patronage of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Huda Galzai, the Department of Botany organized a Plantation Drive to promote environmental awareness and afforestation. The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Huda Galzai, with support from Guest of Honour SHO Safakadal, Srinagar, Mr. Javid Ahmad. Faculty, students, NSS volunteers and NCC cadets planted saplings across campus. The drive continues all week with awareness campaigns.
