HSS Hajin Revives Democratic Tradition with Student Council Elections
Government M.L. Higher Secondary School Hajin witnessed a landmark moment as it successfully conducted elections for the posts of Secretary and Deputy Secretary, reinstating the student democratic process after a gap of nearly three decades.
The entire election process was carried out in a systematic and transparent manner, beginning with the official notification, followed by nomination filing, campaigning and finally polling. The event generated great excitement among students, resulting in an impressive voter turnout. A total of 432 votes were cast during the election.
Six candidates contested the elections, each representing a unique symbol to connect with voters:
Hilal Sajad — Candle
Hyder Hameed — Mike
Shakir Yousuf — Bat
Raqib Shafi Rather — Pen
Iqra Hamid — Laptop
Bilqis Jan — Chair
Highlighting the importance of the initiative, Respected Principal Mr.Mehboob Ahmad Khan stated that such activities play a vital role in nurturing leadership skills and awareness about democratic responsibilities among students.
Providing further insights, Vice Principal Mr. Shakir Shafi noted that the polling process was conducted peacefully and efficiently, with students showing keen interest and discipline throughout.
The students participated in the entire election process in different capacities showing keen interest and enthusiasm.It provided them an opportunity to get first hand experience of conducting elections.
In the results, Hilal Sajad, secured 130 votes to win the post of Secretary. Raqib Shafi Rather emerged as the Deputy Secretary, securing 116 votes.
After the declaration of results, the elected candidates took an oath of responsibility, pledging their commitment to student welfare, discipline and institutional progress.
