Success in Spawn Production of Pleurotus ostreatus (Oyster Mushroom)

We are delighted to share a glimpse of one of our ongoing and successful initiatives – the spawn production of Pleurotus ostreatus, commonly known as Oyster Mushroom, being conducted under the expert guidance of Prof. Rajendra Singh Negi, Head of the Department, Dr. Santosh Singh Rawat and . Dr. saini.
This initiative has shown promising results, with the department achieving a significant breakthrough in high-quality spawn production – a key step in sustainable and income-generating mushroom cultivation practices.
A special appreciation goes to Das, one of our dedicated Master’s students, for his active contribution and hands-on involvement in the project. His commitment and hard work have played an essential role in the success of this venture.
We also extend our sincere appreciation to the research scholars of the department— Ankit Sati singh rana Pratibha Rawat for their consistent insights and generous sharing of knowledge throughout.

Glimpses of NAAC PEER TEAM, during the visit of the Department of Rural Technology Demonstration & Training Centre - Mushroom Cultivation & Spawn Production Unit, Apiary & Vermi-composting Unit, Automatic Weather Station & Research Block. Discussion with the NAAC Peer Team Chairman Prof. S. P. Bansal, member secretary Y. V. Reddy and G. Singaiah on various aspects of Community Outreach and Extension Training Activities, conducted for the Sustainable Livelihood for the Community by the Department on 6 June 2024. The department celebrated World Environment Day by planting various types of trees around the Rural Technology Demonstration and Training Centre. On this occasion, Prof. Ajit Kumar Negi, Dean of the School of Agriculture and Allied Science, and Head Prof. Rajendra Singh Negi Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal Central University were present. They motivated the faculty, PhD scholars, and students to plant more trees and take necessary actions for climate change resilience.

The Department of Rural Technology is actively engaged in community-oriented programs. Most recently, Professor Rajendra Singh Negi and students from the department participated in a book donation drive, collaborating with the Arts and Science Club at HNBGU and the Azim Premji Foundation.

During the ICAR-PRT visit to the School of Agriculture & Allied Science, Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal Central University, Department of Rural Technology had the chance to showcase the diverse activities undertaken by the Department. It was an honor for us to interact with esteemed personalities Professor N. Kumar, the former Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Agriculture University, Professor S. Siddaya, and Dr. N. K. Jain, the Member Secretary of ICAR.

On 13 Dec 2023, A Fresher party was organized by the students for First-year students and Ph.D. Scholars. In the inaugural session, Prof. R. S. Negi, Head welcomed the new students and Ph.D. Scholars and wished them for the future, ensuring that their journey in the department will be enriching & fruitful, surrounded by the most encouraging and supportive environment.
Students from diverse regions of the country presented various cultural performances on the occasion.
