The Indian Meteorological Department has indicated that there will be heavy to very-heavy rain in sub-Himalayan west Bengal and Sikkim i.e the Darjeeling-Sikkim-Terai-Dooars region.

Rainfall is expected to range between 7 cm to 20 cm in the hills before midnight today (a cloudburst-like situation).

The rainfall is expected to remain between heavy to very-heavy till the 16th of June.

Please be prepared with your emergency medical response contingency plan, with drugs, logistics, consumables.

ANNOUNCEMENT ON ADMISSIONS FOR THE MAY BATCHES:
For the Civil Services Examination 2018-19, Vajiram & Ravi is to commence courses in General Studies (Prelim cm Main), Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) & Optional Subjects in the month of May 2018.
Registration: Online registration for the above courses will be available on 6th and 7th May 2018 between 9AM and 5PM.
Admission: The process of online registration is mere registration for admission and does not ensure admission. Admission shall be confirmed by Vajiram & Ravi, on payment of fee, on the date specified at the time of online registration. The admission process would begin from the 2nd week of May 2018 for the May session.
First-Come-First-Serve: Admissions will be on “first-come-first-served” basis.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) on Monday released an updated red list classifying the different species.

What are the red list categories and what is it for?

According to their website,the IUCN Red List Categories are intended to be an easily and widely understood system for classifying species at high risk of global extinction.
The categories are:

EXTINCT — the last individual in the species has died.

EXTINCT IN THE WILD — it now lives only in captivity and not in its natural habitat.

CRITICALLY ENDANGERED — facing an extremely high risk of extinction in the wild.

ENDANGERED — facing a very high risk of extinction in the wild.

VULNERABLE — facing a high risk of extinction in the wild.

NEAR THREATENED — likely to qualify for a threatened category in the near future.

LEAST CONCERN — it is widespread and abuntant in the wild.

DATA DEFICIENT — inadequate information.

NOT EVALUATED — not yet been evaluated against the criteria.
