Heritage Visit to Rakhigarhi

Jindal Institute of Haryana Studies Organized Heritage Tour to Rakhigarhi on 21 September 2025 with Department of Archaeology and Museums, Government of Haryana, Highlighting Haryana’s Rich Cultural Legacy

RAKHIGARHI, HARYANA – The Jindal Institute of Haryana Studies (JIHS), in collaboration with the Department of Archaeology & Museums, Haryana, successfully organized a heritage tour to Rakhigarhi, a prominent site of the Harappan Civilisation, on September 21, 2025. The initiative brought together over forty faculty and staff from O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) for an immersive journey into history and culture, reflecting a commitment to preserving and celebrating Haryana’s heritage.

Tour Highlights and Activities

The day-long tour was curated by Prof. Sukanya Sharma, a Research Fellow at JIHS and Assistant Professor at the Jindal School of Art & Architecture. Participants engaged in a series of enriching activities designed to offer a hands-on experience of the ancient site. Dr. Appu Saharan led a guided heritage walk, providing insights into the historical significance of Rakhigarhi. A key highlight was an encounter with the spectacular Rakhigarhi Woman, a well-preserved skeleton that has offered crucial information about the people of the Harappan Civilization.

The group also participated in a practical pottery workshop led by artist Mr. Rahul, allowing them to connect directly with the ancient craft. The day concluded with a culinary experience, where participants enjoyed authentic Haryanvi Cuisine at the Rakhigarhi Resort & Farm, adding a taste of local culture to the historical exploration.

Sonipat Human Development Report 2026

The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Haryana Shri Nayab Singh Saini released the SonipatHumanDevelopmentReport2026 in Panchkula on 8 Jan 2026 — proudly marking Haryana’s first-ever District Human Development Report .

The report, prepared by the Jindal Institute of Haryana Studies (JIHS) at O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) offers critical district-level insights into the progress in human development and policy priorities in the district. The landmark report offers data-driven insights to support inclusive and evidence-based policymaking at the district level.

The release took place at an event hosted by Swarna Jayanti Haryana Institute for Fiscal Management (SJHIFM) and joined by Dr Raj Nehru, Director General of SJHIFM and Officer on Special Duty to the CM of Haryana, the Founding Vice Chancellor of JGU, Prof. Dr. C. Raj Kumar and Director of Jindal Institute of Haryana Studies (JIHS), Prof. Dr. Mrinalini Jha.

It is a significant step towards strengthening district-level planning, governance, and human development outcomes in Haryana. We are confident that it will be a useful source for policymakers, scholars, and practitioners working towards inclusive and sustainable development in the state.

"Panel Discussion on “New Haryana, Old Boundaries: Conversations on Gender and Caste”
Commemorating the Haryana Formation Day, the Jindal Institute of Haryana Studies (JIHS) organised a Panel Discussion on the theme “New Haryana, Old Boundaries: Conversations on Gender and Caste”, on 3 November 2025. Prof. Dr. C. Raj Kumar, founding Vice-Chancellor of O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU), addressed the gathering and marking the significance of the formation of a separate state of Haryana. He highlighted the vision of JIHS and the roles the Institute aims to play in conducting impactful and policy relevant research on issues concerning an equitable progress in Haryana.

Panellists Prof. Surinder S. Jodhka, Professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University, Prof. Ravinder Kaur, Professor Emerita, IIT Delhi, Prof. Prachy Hooda, Lecturer at IDEAS, and Prof. Bhupender Yadav, Retired Professor of History shared their insights on diverse aspects of gender and caste in Haryana. The questions around hashtag identity, diversity of dominant caste groups in different regions of Haryana, evolution of concept of hashtag in the state, changing role of hashtag panchayats, questions around hashtag in the state, improvements in female literacy not reflecting in labour market, hashtag , and the role of sports rooted in gender and caste in driving social change emerged as key points the discussion. The session was moderated by Prof. N. Chandra Bhanu, Assistant Professor, JGLS.
Prof. Kranthi Nanduri, Associate Director of JIHS, presided over the session.

"Distinguished Public Lecture by Dr. Raj Nehru"
JIHS hosted a Distinguished Public Lecture on 15 October 2025 by Dr. Raj Nehru, Officer on Special Duty to the Chief Minister of Haryana and Director General, Swarn Jayanti Haryana Institute for Fiscal Management (SJHIFM). Dr. Nehru discussed the Haryana Government’s roadmap for contributing to Vikas Bharat@2047. Discussions revolved around evidence-based policymaking, governance reform, public health, education, and sustainable urbanization. The session reinforced JIHS’s commitment to supporting data-driven governance and SDG aligned policy initiatives in partnership with state institutions.
