CHRS invites everyone to the second book panel this semester as part of the CHRS Conversation Series on 27th November (Friday) from 2-4 PM. We will be hosting Professor Maroona Murmu for a book panel on her recent publication Words of Her Own: Women Authors in Nineteenth-Century Bengal. Professor Murmu will be in conversation with Professor Nandini Dhar (JSLH), Professor Jhuma Sen (JGLS), and Professor Uma Chakravarti, feminist historian, and filmmaker. The panel will be chaired and moderated by historian Professor Tanika Sarkar, JNU.

The Centre for Human Rights Studies, O. P. Jindal Global University, organised a Sensitisation Programme on Human Rights which included the Justice J. S. Verma Fourth Memorial Lecture delivered by Mr. Colin Gonsalves, founder of Human Rights Law Network. Gracing the event was Shubhra Verma, daughter of Late Justice J.S. Verma. In addition to this, a workshop on ‘Human Rights and Governance’ by eminent human rights experts and practitioners from Amnesty International (India) and a workshop on ‘Prisoners’ Rights’ by Mr. Ajay Verma, IBJ Senior Fellow and India Country Manager, kept the audience engaged.

The Centre for Human Rights Studies (CHRS), in collaboration with the Centre for the Study of Knowledge Systems, organised a Consultation on ‘Potential Transitional Justice Framework for Manipur’ held on 1 December, 2018.
The keynote address at the consultation was delivered by Hon'ble Mr. Justice Shishak, former Chief Justice, High Court of Chhattisgarh and former Chairperson, Manipur State Human Rights Commission.
The consultation analysed the applicability of a suitable transitional justice model with a strong focus on effective transition from conflict to peace and reconciliation in the state of Manipur. Panelists deliberated on factors which lead to the erosion of accountability in relation to human rights violations perpetrated by the security forces and insurgent groups in the region.
Sessions were split into three parts that emphasised on the broader processes that need to be activated for effective transition to peace in Manipur. The consultation was informed by several discussants such as Prof. Shiv Visvanathan, Professor and Vice -Dean, JGLS; Mr. Sanjoy Hazarika, Director, Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI); Mr. Babloo Loitongbam, Director, Human Rights Alert, Manipur; Mr. Satnam Bains, Director, Punjab Documentation & Advocacy Project (PDAP).

The Centre for Human Rights Studies organised a One-Day Training Programme on Human Rights in association with National Human Rights Commission on 27th October, 2018.
The sessions in the training program were conducted by experts like Mr. Chaman Lal, IPS (Retd.), Former DGP and Former Special Rapporteur, National Human Rights Commission, Prof. Y.S.R. Murthy, Professor & Registrar, Jindal Global Law School (JGLS), Prof. Shruti Pandey, Associate Professor, JGLS and Mr. Anubhav Dutt Tiwari, Senior Research Associate, JGLS.
200+ participants participated in the training program.
