मुखर्जी नगर जाकर आप किसी से भी पुष्पेंद्र भईया के बारे में पूछ लीजिए; हर कोई उन्हें अच्छी तरह जानता है। पिछले 28 साल से वह दिल्ली के इस इलाक़े में रहकर अपना सपना पूरा करने में जो लगे हुए हैं!

देश ही नहीं बल्कि दुनिया की सबसे कठिनतम परीक्षाओं में से एक संघ लोक सेवा आयोग यानी UPSC का इस साल का रिजल्ट जारी होने के बाद से सफलता की कई कहानियां हमारे सामने आई हैं। पुष्पेंद्र श्रीवास्तव की कहानी अभी अधूरी ज़रूर है, लेकिन अपने संघर्ष से वह किसी को भी प्रेरित कर सकते हैं।

48 साल के पुष्पेंद्र श्रीवास्तव साल 1996 से प्रतियोगी परीक्षाएं दे रहे हैं और मुखर्जी नगर के नेहरू विहार में रहकर हिंदी मीडियम से UPSC की तैयारी कर रे हैं। यहां के लगभग सभी स्टूडेंट्स उन्हें जानते हैं और उनके प्रति सभी के मन में एक अलग सम्मान है।

पुष्पेंद्र मध्य प्रदेश के छतरपुर जिले के एक छोटे से गांव बंभौरी के रहने वाले हैं। उनके माता-पिता दोनों ही सरकारी शिक्षक हैं। वह बताते हैं कि परिवार के लोग चाहते थे कि वह भी शिक्षक बनें। उन्हें साल 1996 में MSc पास करने के बाद घरवालों ने बीएड प्रवेश परीक्षा का फॉर्म भरने के लिए कहा। जब वह फॉर्म खरीदने गए तो देखा कि मध्य प्रदेश PCS का भी फॉर्म निकला है। उन्होंने दोनों भर दिए। बीएड के प्रवेश परीक्षा में सफल हुए और मध्य प्रदेश PCS का प्रीलिम्स भी पहले अटेम्प्ट में क्लियर कर लिया।

इसके बाद UPSC की तैयारी करने इलाहाबाद आ गए। यहां उन्होंने UPSC का भी पहला अटेम्प्ट दिया और मेंस तक पहुंचे। साल 1997 में उन्हें लगा कि UPSC के लिए इलाहाबाद से भी ज्यादा वाजिब जगह दिल्ली का मुखर्जी नगर है तो दिल्ली पहुंच गए। तब से आज तक वह डेडिकेटेड तैयारी में लगे हुए हैं। जाने माने शिक्षक विकास दिव्यकीर्ति ने भी उनके साथ UPSC की तैयार की है। IPS मनोज शर्मा, जिन पर 12वीं फेल फिल्म बनी है, वह इसी मुखर्जी नगर में उनके रूम पार्टनर रहे हैं।

UPSC और स्टेट PCS को मिलाकर पुष्पेंद्र 73 प्रिलिम्स की परीक्षाएं दे चुके हैं। हाल ही में 43वीं बार मेंस लिखा है। 8 बार इंटरव्यू तब पहुंचे लेकिन अभी तक सफलता मिलनी बाकी है। आने वाले दिनों में वह 9वां इंटरव्यू मध्य प्रदेश PCS का देने वाले हैं। बिहार PCS में भी उनके पास एक मौक़ा बाकी है। उन्होंने शादी भी नहीं की है, लेकिन इस बात की उन्हें कोई फ़िक्र नहीं है।

वह कहते हैं "पिछले 28 वर्षों में हमने इतनी परीक्षाएं दी लेकिन रिकॉर्ड है कि किसी भी परीक्षा के प्री में आज तक फेल नहीं हुए।"

तैयारी करते हुए उन्हें 28 साल हो गए हैं, लेकिन उनके चेहरे पर वही कॉन्फिडेंस है जो मुखर्जी नगर में तैयारी करने के लिए 20 साल की उम्र में आने वाले छात्र के चेहरे पर होता है। वह आज भी उतनी लगन से तैयारी में लगे हैं, जैसे अपनी तैयारी शुरू की थी। वह कहते हैं कि सफलता मिलना, न मिलना अलग बात है लेकिन अपनी कोशिश पर उन्हें गर्व है।

पुष्पेंद्र तैयारी के साथ-साथ एक कोचिंग संस्थान में एजुकेटर की जॉब भी करते हैं और उनकी अच्छी-खासी सैलरी भी है। लेकिन फिर भी वह अधिकारी बनने की कठोर तैयारी में लगे हुए हैं।
