On 16th October 2025, the Forest and Environment Department, Government of Sikkim, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), organized a hands-on Sustainable Lifestyle Workshop under Mission LiFE. The theme for this year was “Reduce Waste” and “SUP Alternatives”. During the workshop, participants were introduced to practical ways of living sustainably. Two students, Abhinay Chettri and Abiral Bhujel, actively took part in the session, where they learned innovative techniques to reuse old clothes and transform them into eco-friendly bags and other sustainable products.After which these students took the initiative to upskilled the students of the class.The workshop aimed to promote creativity, environmental awareness, and responsible consumption among the youth.

लोअर सुमिन माध्यमिक विद्यालयमा आज प्रि–दिपावलीको रंगीन समारोह भव्य रूपमा सम्पन्न भयो। विद्यालयका विद्यार्थीहरूले नृत्य, गीत, देउसीभैलो प्रस्तुत गरेर कार्यक्रममा रौनक थपे।
यो कार्यक्रमले विद्यार्थीहरूमा आपसी सद्भाव, सहयोग र संस्कृतिप्रतिको प्रेम जगाउने काम गर्‍यो। दिपावलीले अन्धकारमाथि उज्यालोको, असत्यमाथि सत्यको र दु:खमाथि सुखको विजयको प्रतीक हो। यस्तो उत्सवले हाम्रो परम्परा, संस्कार र एकताको सन्देश दिन्छ। विद्यालयले हरेक वर्ष यस्ता कार्यक्रमहरूमार्फत विद्यार्थीहरूमा संस्कृतिप्रतिको सम्मान र सकारात्मक सोच विकास गरिरहेको छ।

Today government secondary school, Lower sumin actively participated in zoom meeting to celebrate mega tinkering day in which students enthusiastically participated in the DIY activity of making vaccum cleaner.
This activity encouraged our student to participate in such activities in future too.

On 2nd August 2025 Lower Sumin Secondary School undertook a special initiative to decorate the school walls and bulletin boards with Tiranga-inspired art ahead of the Independence Day celebrations.
The objective of this activity was to instill a sense of national pride and unity among students while showcasing their creativity and love for the country. Students from all classes actively participated in the decoration drive under the guidance of their teachers.
Walls and display boards across the campus were adorned with vibrant artworks inspired by the Indian national flag — the Tiranga. The art included hand-drawn and painted depictions of the flag, freedom fighters, national symbols .
The initiative not only beautified the school premises but also strengthened students’ emotional connection to the country. It served as a reminder of the sacrifices made for India’s freedom and the values the national flag represents.
The activity was a great success and received appreciation from teachers, parents, and visitors alike. It concluded with a reflection session where students shared their inspiration behind their creations.

A Career Guidance and One-on-One Counseling Program was successfully conducted today at Government Secondary School, Lower Sumin. The program was organized by Career Guru Edu. Learn, as part of the initiatives under Samagra Shiksha, aimed at empowering students through educational and career awareness.

The primary objective of the program was to:

1. Understand students' individual career interests, strengths, and areas of improvement.

2. Provide professional career counseling and guidance tailored to each student.

3. Introduce students to a wide range of career options across various fields.

4. Inform them about different career paths, required qualifications, skill sets, and future opportunities.

The session began with an interactive seminar where students were encouraged to reflect on their goals and aspirations. This was followed by one-on-one counseling sessions, where trained career counselors Mrs. Pooja Gurung and Mr. R. Subramaniam engaged with students individually. These personalized sessions helped identify each student's interests, talents, and challenges, allowing for specific and practical guidance.

The program proved to be insightful and motivating for the students. It equipped them with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions about their future careers and helped them recognize the importance of planning ahead.

Overall, the initiative was well-received by both students and teachers, contributing meaningfully to the holistic development goals envisioned by Samagra Shiksha.

The second day of Shiksha Saptha observed at Lower Sumin Secondary School,Pakyong Disrict on 23rd July 2024. As per today’s topic FLN the primary section was familarised with colours, calculation using rangometry, ganney mala, madku with dice and bhana
bhai kati. Students were given charts to draw something. Pledge on Nipun Bharat was taken by all.
Story telling session was also conducted and importance of FLN were made clear to some parents present. Activities based on colours and shapes were incorporated mainly in this session.

Lower Sumin Secondary School today hosted a vibrant Inter-House Solo Singing Competition final in two categories junior and senior, showcasing the diverse musical talents of the students.Senior teacher sir K.B khulal and Mr. Rojesh Gurung (former student of lsss)were the panel of judges for the competition.Students from all four houses participated enthusiastically. Each house was represented by talented solo singers from various grades, eager to demonstrate their vocal abilities.After careful deliberation, the judges announced the winners. The top two performers from senior category were:
First Place: Moni Raj Rai(Red House)
Second Place: Mingma Lhamu Tamang (Blue house)
And From Junior category:
First place: Depasha Chettri(Red house)
Second place: Sabina Rai(Green house).
The Inter-House Solo Singing Competition was a resounding success, highlighting the musical talents within Lower Sumin Secondary School. The event not only provided a platform for students to showcase their abilities but also fostered a sense of healthy competition among the houses. On June 21st, Lower Sumin Secondary School celebrated International Yoga Day with great enthusiasm and participation. The day commenced with an assembly where the House coordinator Sir Parash Chettri and Incharge Sir T.B. Chettri delivered inspiring speeches, highlighting the importance of yoga for maintaining physical and mental well-being. They emphasized the role of yoga in promoting a healthy lifestyle and reducing stress.Following the speeches, students recited poems they had written about the benefits and significance of yoga. These recitations reflected their creativity and understanding of the practice, adding a personal and artistic touch to the celebration.The event also featured an engaging assembly quiz focused on yoga. The quiz covered various aspects of yoga, reinforcing the students' knowledge and ensuring that the lessons of the day were well understood. This interactive segment added an element of fun and learning, making the celebration both educational and enjoyable.After the morning activities, students gathered for a group yoga session led by Parash Sir. The session included various yoga postures and breathing exercises, demonstrating the practical benefits of yoga. Students actively participated, showcasing their eagerness to learn and adopt these practices.Overall, the International Yoga Day celebration at Lower Sumin Secondary School was a resounding success, fostering a sense of community and highlighting the importance of incorporating yoga into daily life.
