4. India test fired its indigenously-developed surface-to-air Akash missile as part of a user trial from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur. This missile has a strike range of 25 km.

5. Olympic champion Abhinav Bindra was awarded the Diploma of Honour and President's Button by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) as an acknowledgment to his contribution to the sport.

12. The Bank of Japan has said that it will charge lenders that leave too much cash on idle deposit with it, introducing a negative interest rate policy for the first time. The central bank said it is imposing a 0.1 percent fee on some new commercial bank deposits with the BOJ, effectively a negative interest rate. It hopes that it will encourage commercial banks to lend more, rather than keeping cash at the BOJ, and stimulate investment and growth in the world’s third—largest economy.

ज्ञान विज्ञान

वैज्ञानिकों के एक दल ने भारत-चीन सीमा पर चिड़िया की नई प्रजाति की खोज की है.

इस प्रजाति को वैज्ञानिकों ने ‘हिमालयन फारेस्ट थ्रश’ या ‘ज़ूथेरा सलीमअली’ नाम दिया गया है. ज्ञात हो सलीम अली भारत के प्रख्यात पक्षी वैज्ञानिक थे.

इस खोज की पुष्टि मिशिगन और उपसाला विश्विद्यालय,स्वीडन के वैज्ञानिकों ने एवियन रिसर्च नामक पत्रिका के एक अंक में प्रकाशन के माध्यम से की है.

प्रारम्भ में वैज्ञानिक इसे चिड़िया की एक और प्रजाति ‘ज़ूथेरा मोलीइससीमा’ समझ रहे थे जिसका पीछे का हिस्सा ‘प्लेन ब्लैक’ होता है. परन्तु हिमालयन फारेस्ट थ्रश, ज़ूथेरा मोलीइससीमा से आवाज़ के सन्दर्भ में भिन्न है.

वैज्ञानिकों का मानना है की ‘ज़ूथेरा मोलीइससीमा’ नामक चिड़िया की आवाज़ ज्यादा कठोर, और बेसुरी होती है जबकि हिमालयन फारेस्ट थ्रश की आवाज़ सुरीली है.

ज्ञात हो वर्ष 1949 से अब तक भारत में सिर्फ 4 प्रजातियों को खोजा जा सका है.
