Unlocking Career Potential: ICAI Inspires Young Minds at Siliguri Model High School (Sr. Sec.)

Siliguri Model High School (Sr. Sec.), Siliguri, had the privilege of hosting an enlightening and impactful Career Counselling Programme on 21.08.2026 (Friday), organised by the Committee on Career Counselling of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) under the chairmanship of CA Arpit Jagdish Kabra.

The programme was designed to broaden students’ horizons by creating awareness about Commerce Education, Higher Education, Financial Literacy, Career Opportunities and the changing landscape of professional education.

The session was graced by CA Lav Agarwal, Secretary, ICAI Siliguri Branch, and CA Nitish Khetan, Career Counsellor, ICAI Siliguri, whose engaging deliberations provided students with valuable insights into the journey of becoming a Chartered Accountant and the diverse opportunities available in the field of commerce and finance.

The students gained a deeper understanding of the role and responsibilities of Chartered Accountants, the importance of professional qualifications, and the various career pathways available after pursuing Commerce. The session also helped them understand the significance of financial literacy, financial planning, ethical decision-making and responsible management of money in both personal and professional life.

Mrs. Shikha Banik, Vice Principal of the school, addressed the students and encouraged them to explore the promising prospects of Chartered Accountancy. She emphasised that with dedication, consistent effort and the right guidance, students can transform their aspirations into meaningful and successful careers.

SILIGURI MODEL HIGH SCHOOL CONTINUES TO NURTURE YOUNG MINDS AND SHAPE THE CONSCIENCE OF MODELITES BY CELEBRATING THE TIMELESS WISDOM AND VALUES EMBODIED IN TULSIDAS JAYANTI.

SMHS commemorated Tulsidas Jayanti - the Birth Anniversary of Goswami Tulsidas Ji on Wednesday , 19th August 2026, with profound reverence and devotion, paying tribute to Goswami Tulsidas Ji, one of India’s most celebrated saints, poets, and literary visionaries. The occasion was not merely a remembrance of a great poet but a meaningful endeavour to reconnect the young generation with the timeless wisdom, spiritual depth, and moral values embedded in Indian literature and culture.

The programme commenced with our respected Vice Principal Ma'am Mrs Sikha Banik, garlanding the portrait of Goswami Tulsidas Ji, paying a floral tribute to the revered saint-poet. This was followed by the offering of the traditional school khada by the esteemed veteran teachers, Ma'am Subhra Deb and Ma'am Priyambada Tiwari.The ceremonial gestures set a solemn and dignified tone for the celebration, honouring the enduring legacy of Goswami Tulsidas Ji.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of the Hindi Department teachers. It commenced with a brief introduction highlighting the life and literary contributions of Goswami Tulsidas. The students also presented speeches and recitations that brought forth the relevance of Tulsidas Ji’s teachings in contemporary life.

The most evocative moment of the celebration was the lyrical recitation of the Hanuman Chalisa by the students. Presented with devotion and musical expression under the guidance of the Music Teacher, Ma'am Sarasi Dutta, the rendition created an atmosphere of serenity and spiritual harmony.

CAREER COUNSELING FAIR AT SILIGURI MODEL HIGH SCHOOL (SR. SEC.) ON 18TH AUGUST 2026 – GUIDING YOUNG MINDS TOWARDS A BRIGHT FUTURE

Siliguri Model High School (Sr. Sec.) once again proved its commitment towards building an empowered and future-ready generation by organising a Career Counseling Programme on 18th August 2026 (Tuesday) in collaboration with Student Outreach, a career counseling initiative dedicated to guiding young minds. The session was specially conducted for the students of Classes XI and XII to enlighten them about the wide array of career opportunities available in today’s dynamic world.

The event was graced by Mr. Ajay Sharma, Founder Director of Student Outreach, and Mr. Manoj Gunwant, Co-founder, who motivated students and shared valuable insights on career preparedness. They highlighted how students must gear themselves up for a volatile, tech-driven, and interconnected world and encouraged them to explore new-age careers and skill sets. The importance of early professional planning, profile building, and acquisition of 21st-century skills was strongly emphasised.

The programme also included a Career Fair, where several reputed universities and colleges from across India participated, providing personalised counselling to students and guiding them on future career paths. The participating universities were:

Students participated with great enthusiasm and actively engaged with the resource persons and university representatives, seeking guidance about emerging career options and higher education pathways.

Our respected Vice-Principal Ma’am, Mrs. Shikha Banik , applauded the initiative and encouraged the students to make the most of such opportunities. 80th Independence Day Celebrations at Siliguri Model High School

Siliguri Model High School, Siliguri, celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India with immense patriotic fervour, enthusiasm and pride.

The celebration commenced with the flag hoisting ceremony by our respected Secretary Sir, Mr. R. C. Garg , followed by the National Anthem, which filled the campus with a profound sense of patriotism and national pride.

The programme was graced by the presence of our respected Vice Principal Ma'am, Mrs. Shikha Banik, School Coordinators, Ms. Aksh*ta Garg and Mrs. Kirti Agarwal. The occasion was further enriched by the presence of our veteran teachers, Mrs. Shubhra Deb Ma’am and Mrs. Priyambada Tiwari Ma’am, whose presence added warmth and dignity to the celebration.

The event featured an exciting Inter-House March Past Competition, followed by an inspiring speech delivered by Mrs. Shubhra Deb Ma’am, who beautifully highlighted the significance of Independence Day and the responsibilities of young citizens towards the nation.

The celebrations continued with a vibrant array of performances, including a patriotic song by Sarasi Ma’am, an impressive Human Pyramid presentation by the Kickboxing Team, energetic group dance performances by our talented Modelites, and the Inter-House Patriotic Song Competition in the Senior Category.

The spectacular Human Pyramid display by the Kickboxing Team was a special highlight of the programme, showcasing remarkable strength, balance, coordination, discipline and teamwork.

The young Modelites showcased tremendous enthusiasm, discipline and talent throughout the programme, making the celebration truly memorable.

The programme concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks delivered by our respected Vice Principal Ma'am, Mrs. Shikha Banik, expressing gratitude to all the dignitaries, teachers, staff members and students who contributed to the success of the celebration. The event culminated with the soulful rendition of “Vande Mataram”, leaving everyone filled with pride and love for the motherland.

Siliguri Model High School, Siliguri, proudly celebrated the 'Har Ghar Tiranga’ Campaign on 14th August 2026 with immense enthusiasm, patriotic fervour and a deep sense of national pride.

The programme was graced by several distinguished dignitaries, including *Mr. Sailesh Kumar Singh, Dy. Commandant; Mr. Manoj Kumar, ASI; and Mr. Prabhakar Bhatt, HC, SSB HQ, Ranidanga*, whose gracious presence added significance and inspiration to the occasion. The event was also held in the gracious presence of our *respected Vice Principal, Mrs. Shikha Banik Ma’am*, along with our veteran teachers *Mrs. Shubhra Deb Ma’am and Mrs. Priyambada Tiwari Ma’am*.

The celebration was further enriched by the presence and guidance of our esteemed *School Coordinators, Ms. Aksh*ta Garg Ma’am and Mrs. Kirti Agarwal Ma’am*, whose support contributed greatly to the successful conduct of the programme.

SILIGURI MODEL HIGH SCHOOL REMEMBERS THE PAST AND REAFFIRMS UNITY ON PARTITION HORRORS REMEMBRANCE DAY.

SMHS solemnly observed Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on Friday,14 August, remembering the pain, suffering and displacement endured by millions during the Partition of India in 1947. The observance was a heartfelt tribute to those who lost their lives, homes and loved ones, while also celebrating the resilience of those who overcame unimaginable hardships and rebuilt their lives.

The programme was graced by the *Honourable Chief Guest Sir Shri Sailesh Kumar Singh, Deputy Commandant, SSB HQ, Ranidanga, Siliguri, and esteemed SSB Personnels Shri Manoj Kumar , ASI, and Shri Prabhakar Bhatt, HC*, whose presence added dignity and significance to the occasion.

The event was also graced by the gracious presence of our respected *Vice Principal Ma'am Mrs Sikha Banik, our esteemed SMHS Coordinators Ma'am Aksh*ta Garg and Ma'am Kirti Agarwal*, along with the presence of veteran teachers *Ma'am Subhra Deb, Ma'am Priyambada Tiwari*, dedicated teachers and enthusiastic students. Their collective presence reflected the school community’s shared commitment to remembering the painful legacy of Partition and reaffirming the values of patriotism and national integrity.

The programme commenced with a solemn and meaningful cultural presentation, setting the tone for an occasion of reflection and remembrance.

A particularly moving segment of the programme was the screening of a short video on Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. Through historical visuals and narratives, the video presented glimpses of the suffering, displacement and emotional trauma experienced by countless individuals and families.
The speech on the plight of Partition victims brought the audience closer to the human stories behind the historical event.

Adding a vibrant patriotic spirit to the occasion was the *Inter-House Sub- Junior Patriotic Song Competition. Students from Four Houses namely - Agni, Jal , Vayu and Prithvi* participated with enthusiasm and pride, filling the school atmosphere with powerful renditions celebrating the nation. Their voices reflected love for the country and beautifully conveyed the message that India's greatest strength lies in its unity amid diversity.

The programme was further enriched by the address of the Honourable Chief Guest
Dy. Comdt. Sir Sailesh Kumar Singh ,who spoke about the significance of remembering Partition and urged students to learn from history.His words highlighted the importance of responsible citizenship, communal harmony, empathy and national unity.

The programme concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks, by our respected Vice Principal Ma'am Mrs Sikha Banik,expressing gratitude to the Honourable Chief Guest, School Management,teachers, students and everyone who contributed to making the observance meaningful and memorable.She further encouraged the students to become ambassadors of peace and to contribute towards building an India that is stronger, more inclusive and united.

Today's observance served as more than a remembrance of a painful past—it became a powerful lesson for the present and a responsibility towards the future. Through music, dance, visual storytelling and thoughtful addresses, Modelites were reminded that history must be remembered not to reopen wounds, but to ensure that the mistakes of the past are never repeated.

Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign & Inauguration of Vande Mataram Exhibition at North Bengal Science Centre, Siliguri

Siliguri Model High School, Siliguri, enthusiastically participated in the “Har Ghar Tiranga” Campaign and the inauguration of the exhibition titled “Vande Mataram – Clarion Call for India’s Freedom Struggle” on 13 August 2026. The programme was organised by the 'North Bengal Science Centre, Matigara, Siliguri', a unit of the National Council of Science Museums under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

The exhibition, centred around the inspiring legacy of “Vande Mataram” and India’s freedom struggle, showcased various historical aspects and personalities associated with the nation’s journey towards independence. It provided students with an opportunity to learn about the sacrifices, courage and patriotic spirit that shaped India’s freedom movement.

Students of Siliguri Model High School participated in the event along with students from several other schools of Siliguri. The participation of the students reflected their enthusiasm for learning about India’s rich history and national heritage.

A quiz competition based on the theme of Vande Mataram and India’s Freedom Struggle was also conducted as part of the event. The students of Siliguri Model High School performed exceptionally well and won several prizes, bringing pride and recognition to the school.

The event served as an enriching educational experience, inspiring students to appreciate the values of patriotism, unity and sacrifice while deepening their understanding of India’s struggle for independence. The participation and achievements of the students added yet another proud moment to the academic and co-curricular journey of Siliguri Model High School.
