A child arrives with a glory of freshness of a flower in this valley of Orchid where its innocence is encouraged to bloom in it's most pristine purity with a tender touch. Orchid Montessori House follows the Montessori method formulated by Dr. Maria Montessori, a renowned child psychologist and educationist. The main aim of the method is three fold : - 'Freedom of movement', 'Freedom of thought' &
'Freedom of action'. This results in inner discipline and self confidence in the child giving him /her enough room to enhance his/her creativity and act constructively. Thus, the child attains maximum physical, mental, intellectual, social, emotional language and cognitive growth. The Helpers in the Montessori environment respect the child's abilities and it's space, hence laying no pressure of the work on the child. The helper neither substitutes the child nor does she force the child into any activity but guides and assists. She plays the role of an observer and a guide only. Various appropriate apparatus are presented to the child according to his/her age and ability. The equipment is scientifically made with an in-built control of error, which helps the child to work independently. There are five main areas of work :-
1. Exercises of practical life : Real objects relating to daily life activities such as spoon, bowl, juicer, kettle, jug, napkins, funnel etc. in child size are presented in a structured manner with meaningful activities.
2. Sensorial Apparatus : These scientific apparatus help the child in training and refining of the 'five senses' - tactile, auditory, visual, olfactory and gustatory.
3. Mathematics : 'Decimal System' is the focus of this area. The Child is presented with the unique apparatus to imbibe the numbers by visual and tactile sense.
4. Language : 'Phonetis' and 'Look & Say' method prepares the child to read and write. Large movable alphabet box assists the child to form words before he/she can write.
5. Cultural Activities : Earth, Fire, Air, Water are the four elements in the universe. The child is introduced to these elements through various scientific experiments, nature related activities, dance, music and art activities.
