Laugh at the above quote as much as you want to but you can't deny the truth that lies in it. Welcome to India!
You will never know what exactly a rat race is until you enter into a coaching institute after 12th after a failed attempt at JEE or AIPMT, or the CEE, for that matter.
Joining a coaching institute is a crucial career decision you make, after you're done with your boards. Please note that if you're among the ones who's dropping out of passion or to get a better rank, this IS NOT for you.

Here's a list of ten things you face.
1. Relatives. Questions. Questions everywhere.
"Beta, kya kar rahe ho aaj kal?"
"Engineering... (pause) Coaching."
And then the look in their face! They were expecting you to be in some college already and your dropping a year means only one thing to them- FAILED at the first attempt.
2. Parents.
"Agle saal ho jayega, na?"
For the first few months, you beam with confidence, "Chill, mamma, if not IIT, NIT for sure."
After that, this question kills us, trust me. We really don't have an effing clue if we would make it. We just know there are lacs like us waiting to be the s***m that won.
These are times you start cursing the Indian population.
3. Social Networking sucks.
All your classmates are probably in some college already. Some in IITs/AIIMS, even. And while they keep on uploading their oh-so-cool pictures, your insides burn like french fries.
There is another category of private engineering/ medical college students who won't stop flaunting their college and you wonder if you too should have joined a private institute instead.
Confusion. Regrets. Confusion. Arghhhh!
4. Coaching institute ≠ school.
You might have consoled yourself in the beginning that you'd make some awesome friends and play those pranks and relive your school days. But trust me, it's not that! The class atmosphere is serious. Plus, there will be atleast one Einstein who has hi-fi doubts on every topic and you wonder why on earth you don't understand a bit of what he said. Your confidence level shrinks to 0.00
Dear, Einstein, please calm down, bro!
5. You feel guilty for wasting your parent's money.
They've spent half a lac on your coaching and you realise you're not meant for medical/engineering. It's like a giant mountain falling on your head. You want to cry and run away and do something productive. You end up eating your tummy full and sleeping for 12 hours straight.
6. Daily Practice Papers go from files into dustbins.
For the first few months, you make sure you have every single DPP with you and the modules they provide. You even try to solve a dozen of them, atleast. And after that... Patience goes out in a vacation and all the DPPs go into the dustbin.
Yes, we don't like messy desks.
7. Hello, Frustration!
The classrooms that used to be full of students are half empty. The teachers who once loved you have given up on you. You don't even know what your doubts are because your abilities are in doubt now. It seems like your whole life is getting wasted and you give up. Music and ci**rs become your best friend. And you label yourself as a "quitter". And yes, other quitters become your long-lost brothers! Inseparable...
8. Less time = eye opener.
If this is your case, you still hold a little luck among your 'beichara' group of pals.
Someone shouts, "Abbey saale, bas do mahine baaki h!"
And you feel like you've wasted enough of your time and should atleast give a try now. You start studying with full enthusiasm just to realise that you really don't like the subjects. They're just not your thing!
9. "I'll do what I want to do."
You know you love English, Psychology, Architecture or maybe, Law. You dream of yourself as a friendly writer putting autographs in your self written books
or that oh-so-succesful lawyer in that black blazer.
You finally realise the simple equation-
Engineering/ Medical = not my cup of tea.
10. And it ends!
Some of you withdraw from even appearing for the entrances. Others appear just for the sake of appearing.
Let's see the positive side- you'll never ever have the thought - "Ek saal drop karta toh shayad ek accha college mil jata."
Hence, you've no regrets for life. And you realised what you actually want.
For those who clear the acid test, heartiest congratulations! You've made the right decision. And for those who don't, life is not just about being a doctor or an engineer. Do whatever you want to do, no matter how silly that may sound to your parents, teachers and friends. Ten years from now you don't want to look back at your life and regret; with a job in your hand that you do not like. You have one life. Live it in your own way!
