Proud Moment for NITS at Semicon India 2025
We proudly congratulates the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering for a landmark institutional achievement at Semicon India 2025.
At this historic event, India presented the first set of Made-in-India chips from a pilot production line to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, marking a major step in building a trusted and globally competitive semiconductor ecosystem. Amidst this proud national moment, NIT Silchar’s very own Neural Amplifier Frontend IC (C2S0042), designed under the prestigious Chip to Startup (C2S) initiative funded by MeitY, Govt. of India, was among the chips showcased.
Project Title: Design & Development of Low Power Low Latency Non-Invasive Seizure Detector System
Fabrication: Semiconductor Laboratory (SCL), Mohali
Core Features:
Four low-noise neural amplifiers for EEG signal acquisition
600 Hz bandwidth to capture high-frequency oscillations (HFOs) during seizures
Noise-immune amplifier and low-pass filter for signal conditioning
Indigenous IP core for real-time seizure prediction
This innovation forms the heart of a fully indigenous wearable device aimed at early detection and prediction of epileptic seizures, providing pre-emptive alerts to patients and improving their quality of life.
Team behind the achievement:
Prof. K. L. Baishnab – Chief Investigator
Dr. Koushik Guha – Co-Chief Investigator & HoD, ECE
Dr. Sourav Nath – Project Associate-II & Lead Designer
We extend gratitude to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, for recognizing and sharing this achievement on his official platform.
We also thank our Director, NIT Silchar, for his constant support and motivation.
Finally, we acknowledge MeitY, Govt. of India, for enabling this project through the C2S initiative.
This accomplishment is not only a proud moment for the ECE Department, but also for the entire NIT Silchar and Assam, as we contribute to India’s journey of becoming a global semiconductor hub.

Dear all,
We are highly delighted to share that NIT SILCHAR HAS BEEN RANKED 601-800 GLOBALLY IN THE OVERALL WORLD UNIVERSITY RANKINGS BY THE HIGHLY REPUTED TIMES HIGHER EDUCATION. This is a huge improvement by 200 ranks from the 801-1000 rank that NIT Silchar got ranked in 2020 INTERNATIONALLY FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME, then in 2021 before which NIT Silchar did not feature in international rankings.
NIT Silchar rank is 10th among the Indian institutes (5th by rank bands) and 1st among the NITs. IISc ranks 1st among the 75 Indian universities which got a rank out of 100 participating universities from India. The ranks of IITs and NITs participated are given below.
The details about Indian universities receiving an international rank at THE can be found here https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/2023/world-ranking #!/page/0/length/-1/locations/IND/sort_by/rank/sort_order/asc/cols/stats
This is a remarkable achievement for us as it validates our significant growth of academic and research within 4 and a half years in all field of study as a primarily Engineering Institution. This year, the THE rankings include 1,799 universities across 104 countries and regions, making these international rankings their largest and most diverse university rankings since their inception.
The global ranking is based on 13 calibrated performance indicators across four areas of teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international transfer. The international rankings can be seen here https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/2023/world-ranking
I am hopeful of a very optimistic global picture for NIT Silchar in the coming years with further advancements in research and academics collaborating with the Government and Industry to ensure high quality funded research that promotes a self-reliant India. These are just the beginning of many more reputed global rankings to come as our goal should to be climb up the ladder of global rankings by improving our academic and research outputs further while increasing our mass perception. It is indeed a challenge to hold the international ranks amidst steep competition.
Our students, faculty, staff, and alumni should enjoy this glorious feat for a second before we together strive to achieve further global excellence. The sky is the limit for us.
Best wishes,
