World No To***co Day Observance at Mahatma Srijunga Government Senior Secondary School, Bermiok-Martam

Mahatma Srijunga Government Senior Secondary School, Bermiok-Martam, observed World No To***co Day with great enthusiasm and community participation. To create awareness among the public about the harmful effects of to***co consumption, a small rally was organized from the school premises to Srijunga Road Fatak.

As part of the awareness campaign, students also performed a short skit/street play at Bermiok Bazaar to educate the public about the dangers of to***co use and the importance of maintaining a healthy, to***co-free lifestyle. The performance was well received and effectively conveyed the message to the community.

A painting competition was also conducted at the school, providing students with an opportunity to express their views and creativity on the theme of to***co control and healthy living.

The programme was graced by Dr. Padenla Bhutia, Nodal Officer (Anti-To***co) from Dentam Primary Health Centre, along with her team. The event witnessed active participation from the teachers of the school and students alike.

The school administration also acknowledges the valuable cooperation and support extended by the Bermiok Police Department, which contributed significantly to the successful conduct of the programme.

Mr. Saurav Khati, today presented the innovative idea of the “Second Home App” before the Scrutiny Panel of the MSMA (Mero School Mero Abhiyaan) Project launched by the Government of Sikkim, Education Department.

The project has proudly been shortlisted as a Top 10 Innovation out of nearly 70–75 ideas from Gyalshing District (West).

The Scrutiny & Field Test Panel included:
• Shri Tashi Ongyal Bhutia, Dy. Director, DEO Gyalshing
• Shri Kuldeep Sharma, Sr. Lecturer, SCERT Gangtok
• Smt. Sadna Gurung, Lecturer, DIET Gyalshing

Hee-Martam, 12th May 2026 : A monitoring team headed by Smt. Asha Khatri, Addl. Director/SS, Education Department Govt. Of Sikkim comprising Smt. Gonam Bhutia, Asst. Director/SE, Education Department and Dr. Pedenla Bhutia, CHC, Dentam accompanied by Mr. Kinzang D. Bhutia, BEO, Hee-Martam BAC visited Mahatma Srijunga Government Senior Secondary School today to evaluate and assess the implementation of guidelines under the To***co Free Educational Institution (ToFEI) initiative.

Cleanliness Drive and TOFEI Awareness Activity
Mahatma Srijunga Government Senior Secondary School, Bermiok, successfully organized a cleanliness drive focusing on to***co products as part of its awareness initiative on To***co-Free Educational Institutions (TOFEI).
During the programme, students actively participated in cleaning the surrounding areas and raising awareness about the harmful effects of to***co use. As part of the activity, students also conducted an inspection of the nearby market area around the school premises to observe and report on the availability and sale of to***co products.
The entire programme was conducted under the guidance and supervision of the nodal teachers, Mr. Mangal S***a and Mr. Hemant Gautam. Their leadership helped students understand the importance of maintaining a to***co-free environment and encouraged responsible community participation.

Awareness Program on To***co Control at
Mahatma Srijunga Government Senior Secondary School Bermiok Martam.

An awareness and training session on to***co control was conducted at the school under the National To***co Control Programme (NTCP) by Dr. Pedenla Bhutia, TOFEI Nodal Officer from the Primary Health Centre Dentam.

The session was part of a broader training initiative for PRI members, police personnel, teachers, NGOs, and other stakeholders, organized by District Hospital Gyalshing in collaboration with Dentam Primary Health Centre. The program focused on educating students of Classes 9 to 12 and engaging local shop owners around the school on the harmful effects of to***co and the importance of maintaining a to***co-free environment.

The program was warmly welcomed by the Vice Principal in the presence of the Nodal Teacher, Mangal Singh S***a, who is actively involved in anti-to***co initiatives under the TOFEI (To***co Free Educational Institution) program.

The Farewell Programme for the outgoing students of Class XII was organized with great warmth and enthusiasm at Mahatma Srijunga Government Senior Secondary School, Bermiok Martam.The event was held in the school premises in the presence of teachers, staff members, and students.

The programme began with a welcome address, followed by a prayer and lighting of the lamp. The juniors presented a series of cultural performances including songs, dances, and speeches to express their gratitude and affection for their seniors. The atmosphere was filled with joy, nostalgia, and heartfelt emotions.
