जिस प्रकार इंसान घर में रहता है, उसी प्रकार बहुत से जानवर भी या तो अपना घर स्वयं बनाते हैं या पहले से बने-बनाये घर में रहते हैं. जैसे : चिड़ियाँ अपना घर स्वयं बनाती हैं जिसे घोंसला कहते हैं परन्तु साँप पहले से बने-बनाये बिल में रहता है. उसी प्रकार अलग-अलग प्रकार के लोग भी अलग-अलग तरह के घरों में रहते हैं. जैसे : राजा महल में रहते हैं, मठाधीश मठ में रहते हैं आदि. जिस प्रकार हिंदी में अलग-अलग घरों के लिए अलग-अलग नाम हैं, ठीक उसी प्रकार अंग्रेजी में भी अलग-अलग घरों के लिए अलग-अलग नाम हैं.
