🔆 Bhoj Wetland

✅ The National Green Tribunal (NGT) recently ordered the MP state govt to stop the operation of cruise vessels as well as other motor-propelled boats in the Bhoj wetland on account of the drastic damage being done to water bodies.
✅ The Bhoj Wetland, also known as Bhopal Lake is a designated Ramsar site and hence, a wetland of international importance (Ramsar Convention 1971).
✅ It consists of two contiguous human-made reservoirs -
🔸"Upper Lake" - created in the 11th century by construction of an earthen dam across the Kolans River.
🔸“Lower Lake” - constructed ~200 years ago, largely from leakage from the Upper lake. It is surrounded by the city of Bhopal.

✅It belongs to the early therapsid clade called Dinocephalians.
✅It lived just before the largest extinction event in the history of Earth. That event eliminated 86 percent of all animal species across the globe.
✅Before the extinction event, dinocephalians were one of the major groups of large terrestrial animals that thrived on land.
✅They were medium to large-sized creatures with both carnivorous and herbivorous representatives.
✅They had thick cranial bones, which led to the group's name, which translates to "terrible head" in Greek.
✅These animals are rare in other parts of the world but well-known in South Africa and Russia.
✅It is the only known species in Brazil.

Causes and challenges in vulture conservation are :

1. 99% loss of 4 species of vultures to critically endangered levels
2. Captive breeding species are vulnerable to poison and NSAID
3. Pharmaceutical industry for animal husbandry or veterinary drugs such as ketoprofen or aclecofenac or nimesulide is a threat
4. Nimesulide not banned yet which is crucial for its conservation
5. Electrocution from power lines grave danger to these birds
6. Secondary poisoning of vultures when they feed on poisoned carcasses
7. Protected areas used for breeding and nesting by these birds but it’s fragmentation and habitat loss
8. Landscape level approach is missing in India
9. Outside protected areas situation is not good for vultures
10. Drug testing by pharma companies before releasing into market missing

Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden:-

✅Location: Jammu and Kashmir. (New genus of parasitic flowering plant)
Opened in 2007.
✅Objective: to boost floriculture and tourism in Kashmir Valley.
✅Area: 30 hectares.
✅Mountain Range: It is situated on the foothills of the Zabarwan Range with an overview of Dal Lake.
✅It is the largest tulip garden in Asia.
✅The garden is built on a sloping ground in a terraced fashion consisting of seven terraces.
✅The garden houses about 48 varieties of tulip flowers.
✅Other flowers: daffodils, hyacinths, roses, narcissus, and other ornamental plants.

▪️Tulip festival:

✅It is an annual celebration to showcase the range of flowers in the garden as a part of tourism efforts by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir.
✅It is organized during the onset of the spring season in Kashmir Valley.

🔆 Tampara Lake

✅ Recently, the National Green Tribunal, Eastern Zone, has directed the Odisha government not to go ahead with ‘illegal’ construction in and around Tampara Lake.
✅ It is one of the largest fresh water lakes in the State of Odisha.
✅ The beautiful lake & the nearby Chilika Lagoon highlight the ecological diversity Odisha is blessed with.
✅ It supports at least 60 species of birds, 46 species of fishes, at least 48 species of phytoplanktons, and more than seven species of terrestrial plants and macrophytes.

A total of 1,02,718 species of fauna and 54,733 species of flora have been documented in the 10 biogeographic zones of the country. ✅Coral are made up of genetically identical organisms called polyps. These polyps have microscopic algae called zooxanthellae living within their tissues.
✅The corals and algae have a mutualistic relationship.

🔰Coral bleaching : When corals face stress by changes in conditions such as temperature, light, or nutrients, they expel the symbiotic algae zooxanthellae living in their tissues, causing them to turn completely white. This phenomenon is called coral bleaching.

✅Name originated from the Manas River and Serpent Goddess Manasa.
✅Declared a World Heritage Site in December 1985 by UNESCO.
✅In 1990 the Manas National Park declared world heritage site in danger due to heavy poaching and terriost activities but in 2011 it was removed from this list.

✅India's tiger population increased to 3,682 in 2022, up from 2,967 in 2018, according to an estimate

✅The reserves with the maximum number of tigers were at the Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand, which reported 260 animals, followed by Bandipur (150), and Nagarhole (141), both in Karnataka

✅Central India, the Shivalik Hills, and the Gangetic plains witnessed increases in tiger population, particularly in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Maharashtra.
