Day-6 of Khet Bachao Abhiyan....

As part of the ongoing Khet Bachao Abhiyan, a Mass Awareness Programme was organized at Government Degree College Shopian to sensitize students and farmers about sustainable agriculture, soil health management, balanced use of fertilizers, and environmental conservation. The programme aimed to create awareness among youth and farmers regarding the importance of protecting agricultural resources and adopting scientific farming practices.

As part of the nationwide Khet Bachao Abhiyan focusing on sustainable soil health and scientific nutrient management, KVK-Shopian, SKUAST-K organized an awareness programme at Bohrihalan village of Shopian district. The programme was aimed at sensitizing growers regarding the importance of the balanced use of fertilizers, soil test-based nutrient application, and integrated nutrient management practices for enhancing crop productivity while maintaining long-term soil fertility. The campaign aligns with the broader national emphasis on promoting balanced fertilization and sustainable nutrient management.

A highly informative and technically enriching Farmers’ Awareness Programme was organized by KVK Shopian, wherein Worthy Former Director Research Prof. M. Y. Zargar delivered an insightful and thought-provoking lecture on advanced orchard management practices in apple cultivation and elaborated on the latest scientific interventions and state-of-the-art management strategies aimed at enhancing productivity, fruit quality, resource-use efficiency, and sustainability in temperate horticulture.

An Awareness Programme on Weather-Based Crop Insurance for Apple Growers was organized today on 21st May 2026 at Mini Secretariat, Shopian under the pilot project launched jointly by Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir in collaboration with SMARTX and ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company.

The programme witnessed active participation of apple growers from different areas of District Shopian. The main objective of the programme was to create awareness among orchardists regarding the importance, benefits, and registration process of weather-based crop insurance for apple orchards.

During the programme, experts from the partner organizations highlighted the increasing risks posed by adverse weather conditions and emphasized the role of weather-based insurance in minimizing financial losses and ensuring economic security for apple growers.

The interaction session enabled growers to discuss their concerns and seek clarification regarding various aspects of the insurance scheme.

All apple growers of District Shopian are hereby informed that a Farmer Awareness Programme on Weather-Based Crop Insurance for Apple Growers is being organized on Thursday, 21st May 2026 at Mini Secretariat, Shopian.

The programme has been launched by SKUAST K in collaboration with Smartex & ICICI Lombard General insurance company to create awareness regarding the importance, benefits, and registration process of weather-based crop insurance for apple orchards.

An advanced training programme on Latest Trends and Innovations in Agriculture sponsored by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) was successfully organized at Krishi Vigyan Kendra Shopian. The programme was attended by officials from NABARD along with farmers from Anantnag district.

The programme was conducted with the objective of enhancing awareness and knowledge of farmers regarding recent technological advancements, innovative agricultural practices, and sustainable farming approaches. During the programme, Subject Matter Experts of the Kendra delivered comprehensive sessions on various aspects of agriculture and allied sectors. The experts highlighted modern interventions, improved production technologies, integrated nutrient and pest management practices, climate-resilient agriculture, and other scientific advancements relevant to their respective disciplines.

An awareness programme cm exposure visit regarding the National Campaign on Balanced Use of Fertilizers was organized by KVK Shopian for Rural Horticultural Work Experience (RHWE) students allotted to the Kendra.

The programme was conducted with the objective of enhancing the practical knowledge and technical understanding of students regarding balanced and judicious fertilizer application, integrated nutrient management, and soil health improvement. The students were also exposed to field-level practices and diagnostic approaches related to nutrient deficiencies and fertilizer use in crops.

The programme provided an effective platform for experiential learning and strengthened the students’ understanding of sustainable and balanced fertilizer management practices in agriculture.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra Shopian conducted an awareness programme on balanced use of fertilizers for local participants. The programme emphasized soil testing, appropriate nutrient application, and integrated use of organic and inorganic fertilizers. Participants were educated on improving crop productivity, reducing input costs, and maintaining soil health for sustainable agricultural practices in the region.

KVK Shopian celebrated Republic Day 2026 with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour, marked by the active participation of its staff. The celebration reflected a deep sense of nationalism and collective commitment to uphold the values of the Indian Constitution, unity, and integrity of the nation, while continuing to serve the farming community and contribute to nation building through agricultural innovation and extension services.
