A Proud Moment for MIT University! 🎬

We’re happy to share a wonderful achievement by our student, Kyrshanborlang Khardewsaw, who has secured 1st Position in the Video Competition organised by the Jaintia Photographers and Videographers Association (JPVA) for his short film, The River.

It’s always special to see our students turn their ideas and passion into something that gets recognised. Kyrshanborlang’s achievement is a reflection of his creativity, hard work, and love for filmmaking, and it’s certainly a proud moment for all of us at MIT University.

A special note of appreciation to Sir Manas Saikia, Faculty In-Charge, for his guidance and support throughout the process.

Congratulations, Kyrshanborlang! We’re proud of you and wish you all the very best for the many more stories and films that lie ahead. Keep creating and keep doing what you love! 🎥👏

Celebrating National Handloom Day 2026

Our exhibition at Ri Sai, Nongpoh showcased student outcomes from Design Studio, Surface Design Techniques, and Lifestyle Accessories, bringing together weaving traditions, sustainable tie-dye practices, and material explorations.

A celebration of culture, craft, creativity, and contemporary design by our students, and an opportunity for them to take their learning beyond the classroom and share it with a wider audience.

We are deeply grateful to Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Dr. Malhar Pangrikar, Pro Vice Chancellor (Career Services) & Dean, MITID Prof. Pramod Riswadkar, and the entire MITID team for their constant guidance and encouragement.

A special thank you to Sir Sharat Kuli for his guidance, dedication, and the care he puts into teaching and nurturing our students, helping them grow with confidence and purpose.

And to our B.Des students, Kdeon Synnah, Aditya Srivastava, Pynhunlang Justin Mawrie, Onkar Mukherjee, Eleazear L Nongrang, Jeremiah J Rapsang, Sunita Pdai, and Rupanika B Myrchiang, thank you for your enthusiasm, creativity and teamwork in bringing this exhibition together. ❤️

National Handloom Day 2026 is a beautiful celebration of India’s living heritage, where tradition meets creativity, craftsmanship meets innovation, and our students become storytellers of culture.

For MIT University Shillong, being part of this celebration for the first time was a truly special milestone. From our fashion show and merchandise stall to the launch of The Seven Waistcoats, it was wonderful to see our students’ creativity come to life.

The fashion show brought indigenous textiles and contemporary expression together on the ramp, while the merchandise stall showcased products inspired by Meghalaya’s rich handloom traditions. The Seven Waistcoats, released by the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri Conrad K. Sangma, celebrated the handloom heritage of the eight North-Eastern states.

For our first batch of design students, just stepping into their specialisation, seeing their work appreciated by distinguished guests, weavers, artisans and the wider community was a moment of immense pride.

Behind it all were weeks of research, preparation, garment creation, styling, rehearsals, coordination and countless last-minute fixes. Every person who contributed played a part in bringing the day together.

A heartfelt thank you to the Department of Textiles, Government of Meghalaya, for creating such a meaningful platform and giving us this opportunity.

Our sincere gratitude to our Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, for being present, encouraging us and supporting us throughout the journey, and to our Dean of Design for guiding and supporting our students from the very beginning.

And to every faculty member, student, model, volunteer, administrator, support staff and media team member, thank you for making this day possible.

Most importantly, to our students, you made us proud. Your confidence, creativity and professionalism made this experience truly special.

This is a reminder that our traditions don’t have to stay in the past. They can evolve, find new expressions and continue to inspire the generations that carry them forward.

Every thread has a story, and every weave carries a piece of our heritage.

Come along as our student shares their journey through Traditional Textile & Craft, from discovering age-old techniques to gaining a deeper appreciation for the skill, patience, and stories woven into every textile.

This course isn’t just about learning how textiles are made. It’s about understanding the people, traditions, and culture that keep these crafts alive, and seeing them through a new lens.

Day 3 of Jury: The day design found its voice.

Communication Design is never just about making something look good. It’s about making something understood.
Today, our students showed us how far thoughtful, intentional design can travel, from a blank page to a message that lands.

Watching our Foundation Design students present their work is always a reminder of why this process matters. The boards, the models, the thinking behind every decision — months of work distilled into a single conversation with the jury.

They showed up, they spoke up, and they delivered. That’s all you can ask for.

Day 1 of Jury.

It was all about sharing stories through design. From the first spark of an idea to the final presentation, our Fashion Design students showcased months of dedication, creativity, and perseverance.

Seeing them speak about their work with such confidence and conviction was incredibly rewarding. Every collection had its own voice, and every presentation reflected a journey of learning and growth.

Proud of how far they’ve come and excited to see where their creativity takes them next.

He didn’t just make art. He explained the magic behind it. ✨
At our Course End Exhibition on 12 May, one of our B.Des students broke down the entire process of Resin Art — from mixing ratios to colour pigments, from pouring techniques to the patience it takes to watch it cure.
And somewhere between the science and the soul of it, you realize — resin art isn’t just a craft. It’s a conversation between the artist and time itself.

The students of B.Des Fashion Design (Semester 4) at MIT ID Shillong, MIT University of Meghalaya, recently showcased their creative works at the Course-End Exhibition for Surface Design Techniques 2.

The exhibition highlighted innovative explorations in textile surface techniques, patterns, textures, and artistic expression, reflecting the creativity and design thinking of our young designers.

The showcase served as a vibrant platform for students to present their learning journey and creative experimentation developed throughout the course. ✨
