The Department of Psychology, St. Edmund's College is organizing a one-week Add-On Skill Course on Happiness (July 13–20, 2026) in collaboration with UMatter, a mental health organisation based in Shillong, and Mr. Paramjit Singh Bakhshi.

The course was inaugurated today in the gracious presence of our Vice Principal, Dr. V.R. Rao, and Dr. J. Marbaniang, Director NEP. This course offers students hands-on, experiential learning in well-being, self-awareness and the practical skills needed to build a happier, more meaningful life.

Christine Nongspung, an NSS VOLUNTEER and student of the Department of Social Work (UG), St. Edmund's College, was selected to represent Meghalaya in the Viksit Vibrant Village Programme (Phase II) held from 14th to 22nd June 2026 at Chamoli District , Uttarakhand.

The programme, organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports under the Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) platform in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs, aims to strengthen national integration, youth engagement, and holistic development in India's border villages.

Through immersive exposure visits, participants from different states stayed with local families in border regions, gaining first-hand experience of the culture, lifestyle, and developmental challenges of these strategically important areas. The programme provided a unique opportunity to foster cross-cultural understanding, community engagement, and a deeper appreciation of the nation's border communities.

On 25th June 2026, the MSW students and Faculty Members of the Department of Social Work-PG and NSS Volunteers of St. Edmund’s College, Shillong, participated in the State-Level Observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2026 at the Moreau Institute of Integral Training, Shillong, organized by the Meghalaya AIDS Control Society (MACS)

Observed under the theme, “World Drug Problem: Persisting Issue, New Challenges, Innovative Responses,” the programme aimed to raise awareness about the growing challenges of substance abuse and promote collective action towards prevention and rehabilitation.

The programme encouraged individuals, especially young people, to say “No” to substance abuse and work collectively towards creating a drug-free and healthy society.

An IDADA Awareness Rally was also organized, where participants wore campaign T-shirts and carried banners and posters advocating for a Drug-Free future.

The Department of Social Work (PG) in collaboration with IQAC, NSS and NCC, successfully organized an online Awareness Programme and NMBA e-Pledge Campaign on the 24th June 2026 at 3:00 PM through Google Meet.

Mrs. Iohun Dhar, had served as the resource person and had addressed on the “The Hidden Costs of Substance Abuse: Impacts on Physical Health, Mental Well-Being, Families, and Society”.

The objective of the campaign is to promote awareness on substance abuse and encouraging a drug-free campus and society. A number of 74 participants had attended the campaign where they had an interactive question-and-answer session in which the participants engage with the resource person, followed by the NMBA e-Pledge campaign, where participants pledged to contribute towards a drug-free society.

Celebrating World Music Day

An open mic session was held in the evening of 20th June to celebrate World Music Day (21st June). Current Choir members as well as members who have graduated came together for the event. Regardless of the skill level, many performers enthusiastically delivered a range of songs from country to soulful ballads, rock and several upbeat numbers. A warm atmosphere engulfed the music room. The evening concluded with a karaoke session of choir favorites. Over a cup of coffee, seniors reminisced and conversations with juniors led to new relationships.The Music Society of St. Edmund's College wishes everyone a euphonius World Music Day.

Camelia Lamurong, Pynshongdor Wahlang, Soreithem Ruivah, Balarishisha Shyrmang, Edealbert Pariong, and Meagan Marisa Pyngrope (Sixth Semester Social Work Majors), during their placement this year at Madan Mawkhar Village (Mawlai Block), conducted home visits, health, cleanliness, and World Water Day campaigns, tuition classes, and a two-day sports event.

One key event was the World Water Day awareness programme organised in collaboration with the Anganwadi worker of the village. The programme initiative educated young participants, 6 to 13 years of age, on water conservation and responsible usage, encouraging them to share practical water-saving habits with their families and neighbours.
