When it comes to recognising his musical abilities, First Colour has had quite the journey. When he first started out as a vocalist, he could have never imagined how passionate he would be about music. And it is this passion that took him from performing on a stage in school to braving the State Summit stage. His dexterity and musical prowess may have enthralled everyone at the event, but it is the sincerity and determination with which he took on the challenge of performing on such a big stage, that truly won our hearts. First Colour was a participant in the Soft Skills Training & Career Exploration Programmes under Aspire Meghalaya 2022.

The programme focuses on instilling and in young adults through training interventions that help them prepare for life, discover an aspiration and celebrate their talent. Since its inception in 2019, more than 23,000 youths from over 100 campuses across 12 districts of the state have been impacted. Aspire’s 2022 edition saw the identification of 268 emerging talents across the State and the recognition of the Top 10 Aspire State Stars in fields as diverse as Singing, Dance, Contemporary Performance, Art & Craft, and Innovation.

The one thing Phibalari remembers from her sessions with the Aspire Meghalaya trainers is that everyone has a unique and special gift which deserves to be uncovered, understood and shared with the world. She has always been fascinated with dance genres like hip-hop and belly dance but as there are no dance studios in her hometown, she decided to learn by watching YouTube videos of some of her favourite dancers. The one memory she cherishes most from the entire programme was the joy she saw in her father’s eyes when she was named as one of the Top 10 emerging talents at the State Summit. Phibalari was a participant in the Soft Skills Training & Career Exploration Programmes under Aspire Meghalaya 2022.

Fiuberth’s dream is clear - to start a woodcarving park, first in his hometown and then across the Garo Hills region. After witnessing his skill, his creativity and the way his eyes light up whenever he speaks about woodcarving, we have no doubt that this is something he can achieve. As part of his preparation for the State Summit, he visited the Dakti Crafts Warehouse, Shillong, along with other talents. The way he watched and listened with eagerness during this mentorship session reflected one of the qualities we so admire in him, which is his willingness to learn. Fiuberth was a participant in the Soft Skills Training & Career Exploration Programmes under Aspire Meghalaya 2022.

Anastacia discovered her talent at the age of 11 and since then she has been singing at her church and taking part in local competitions. When asked about her experience at the Aspire Meghalaya District Talent event in Mairang, she shared that she was intimidated by the other talents and was frightened by the stage. But despite her fear, she gave her best and was recognised as one of the Top 3 talents from her district. This personal achievement helped strengthen her self-belief which made her more than ready to own the stage at the State Summit, and own it, she did! Anastacia was a participant in the Soft Skills Training & Career Exploration Programmes under Aspire Meghalaya 2022.

Fastrossing & Pynshaibor are Aspire Meghalaya’s very own dynamic & enterprising duo. They both share a vision to help improve the quality of life for people in their home state through their inventions. The challenge they had been facing with respect to this dream was gaining access to the right kind of training course or programme that would help educate and guide them further. The mentorship sessions at the State Summit did just that. They helped open their minds to new technology, which broadened their scope of inventions, and with it their vision for their futures. Jiovanni's gift for poetry and songwriting is a medium for getting her deepest thoughts and feelings across. She began writing her first lyrics at the tender age of 11 and since then she has composed several songs in both Khasi and English. The lessons on body language and power stances, coupled with diligent practice on her part during the days leading up to the State Summit, are what helped her brave the big stage. Her Aspire experience has taught her to give her 100% in everything she does and to always strive to be her best self.
