Comet :- C/2025 R3 taken at

C/2025 R3 is a hyperbolic Oort Cloud comet. It is unknown if it will survive the close approach to the Sun.
First spotted by Ritchey-Chretien telescope in Hawai on September 2025. Due to the close approach it has long tail of 10 arcsec with visible green light suggesting abundance of oxygen/nitrogen in it. Its trajectory will lead it to get ejected from the solar system.

What is Stargazing?
Stargazing is the art of observing the night sky — planets, stars, nebulae, galaxies and meteor showers — using the naked eye, binoculars and powerful telescopes. It’s a calm, mindful experience where the universe slowly reveals its beauty.

At Darkmattersindia Observatory, we host weekend stargazing batches under the dark skies of Shahapur, where visibility is extremely high and light pollution is minimal.

What can you observe this season?

🌠 Geminid Meteor Shower
Witness 20–50 meteors per hour streaking across the sky — one of the most spectacular meteor showers of the year.

What are meteor showers?
Meteors are bright flashes of light that move quickly across the sky. They are caused by pieces of dust and debris left behind by a Comet or an Asteroid, which upon entering the atmosphere, they slow down and burn up. This happens every so often and can occur at any time.
The Geminids are caused by an asteroid called 3200 Phaethon. This is an unusual asteroid, with a comet-like vapour tail. The Geminids are spectacular and have been known to produce up to 150 meteors per hour in dark skies.
Other than the Geminid showers you can also view the planets, nebulae and galaxies through our top-class equipment. It's all happening @ Dark Matters.
