The UK newspaper The Guardian published an article in July 2010 about UK graduates applying for jobs abroad. The article covers a number of cases of UK graduates who worked abroad and finishes with five tips for finding jobs abroad. Although these tips are aimed at UK based graduates they have a wider relevance.

The five tips can be summarized as:

1) Be focused: have a specific goal in mind such as the country you
would like to go to.
2) Consider work permits / visa: You need to check with the
relevant embassy or consulate.
3) Brush up on your languages: What languages do you need?
4) Be culturally sensitive: Job markets differ in different countries.
What is most important in one country is not so in
another.
4) Think tactically: Network with contacts abroad both before and
while you are there.
