The impact of 'Extra quotient'
Seeing me in dejected mode, my mother asked me as to what has happened. I was not in mood to respond to her. But, who else can I turn to at this point of time? Slowly, with a disappointment filled tone I told. Mom, I was almost sure to get my dream job in campus placements with highest package. Technically speaking, I should get that job because, throughout the course, I have been performing consistently in my academics. Also, I have been consistently topper. But my friend, “who is not so good” in academics, has been selected in the campus interview for an IT job in a reputed IT organization. I don’t know where I missed. Sharing my agony, I just stopped of choking.
Mother, with affection filled voice consoled, “It’s alright. Probably You are destined for a better one. Do not lose heart. Before your next attempt, I strongly advise you to have an interaction with your friend to assess where did you lag.
Convinced by my mother’s words, I approached my friend to hear his version of his success story. He looked at me with a warm and affectionate smile, made me comfortable, and shared with me the interview process. I did not find much difference between his interview and mine. We have performed almost equally with me faring a little better. I was really stunned when I looked at his bio-data.
The ‘Extra’ I saw in my friend’s Bio-Data
Internship in each semester
On line Certification programs in some of the programming languages taught as part of the syllabus
Mini and Major Projects done by him. I could ‘see’ that he has done with very high degree of involvement mainly because of the “additional skills” he has acquired through certifications.
Conclusion
I realized that my friend has “invested” in education and empowering himself while I could not do that.
