A newborn in Florida is thought to be the first baby in the world born with COVID-19 antibodies after their parent received a vaccination. The pregnant mother reportedly received the first dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine about 3 weeks before giving birth to the baby girl. In a co-written paper, two pediatricians say they tested blood from the child's umbilical cord for antibodies and detected them 'at time of delivery.'

'Thus, there is potential for protection and infection risk reduction from SARS-CoV-2 with maternal vaccination,' the doctors wrote. The paper itself has yet to be peer-reviewed.

Researchers at BITS Pilani, Hyderabad campus, have announced the development of a gold nano particle-based diagnostic kit, which is cheaper and quicker for early-stage detection of HCV infection.
Lead researchers include Prof. Ramakrishnan Ganesan of the Chemistry Department and Prof. Jayati Ray Dutta, HOD of our Biological Sciences Department.
