Department of English, Pope's College, Sawyerpuram The Department of English Literature, Pope's College, was born in the year 2010. The department offers B.A & M.A English Literature. Prof. D.S. R. T.J.T.

The department also offers add-on courses like Communicative English (UGC Sponsored) and Spoken English. The Department of English, Pope's College - Sawyerpuram, inherently came into existence in the beginning of the college. George Muller, the founder Principal, was the first Head of the Department. Later several eminent persons like Prof. Jeyam Navaraj, Major. Rajkumar, Dr. T. Joseph Christadoss, carried the torch. The Department of English Literature was born in the year 2010 as a reward to the toils of Dr. T. Joseph Christadoss (the Principal then) and Dr. S. Pauline Anbuselvi, the HoD. The department's UG Programme (B.A English Literature) was started in the academic year 2010-2013. The department's PG Programme (M.A English Literature) was started in the academic year 2013-2015. The department has various clubs to enhance the skills and academic performance of the students transforming them into littérateurs to give a greater contribution to Literature and the nation at large.

Our PEDL - Popes English Department Library organised a talk on NATIONAL LIBRARY DAY on 12.8.2024 at 2pm. Staff stressed the importance of reading books and students shared their thoughts.

NATIONAL BOOK LOVERS DAY was conducted in our department by the Department Librarian, Asst. Prof. V. Ashwini.

Students eagerly submitted their favourite Books with the Bookmarks made by them. It was really a treat to the eyes.

Celebration of NATIONAL HANDLOOM DAY and a visit to WEAVERS

Our department celebrated National Handloom Day on 7.8.2024. Students and Faculty wore cotton dresses to honour weaving.
Students visited the nearby weavers and came to know the process of making towels and sarees.
Thanks to Mrs. Sheeba, our department staff, for arranging and explaining the details.
