From Krea to UBC, Aarthi Venkatesh, a Psychology Major and Philosophy Minor from the SIAS Cohort of 2023–27, followed her curiosity about cognition through research, new experiences and questions.

Her journey took her from exploring cognition at Krea to the Centre for Infant Cognition at the University of British Columbia, where she joined as a Founding Generation Fellow.

On September 17 and 18, 2026, students from two ARTS courses came together to share the work they had developed over the course of the term, bringing together different materials, processes and ways of making. Convened by Kaveri Bharath, Visiting Faculty, Global Arts, SIAS, the two-day showcase offered a glimpse into the varied ways students engaged with art, materials and making in the classroom.

The ARTS 338 students presented their Jaali Showcase, exploring the history, origins and uses of jaalis through geometry and pattern. Using interactive mini blocks, they experimented with intricate forms before translating these explorations into student-made jaalis, inviting visitors to engage with the process as much as the final work.

The following day, students of ARTS 243, The Tactile & The Material, presented an exhibition of artworks created through a range of mediums including yarn, paper, fabric, clay and charcoal. Each work reflected the students’ exploration of material, texture and form, as they experimented with making by hand and found different ways to express their ideas.

Together, the two exhibitions offered a glimpse into the many ways artistic exploration can take shape in the classroom.

About the Session

Mr Narayanan will be discussing his recent book Courage Under Fire: Leadership Lessons from the Arab Spring, Maggi Crisis, Covid and More.

Courage Under Fire is a practical leadership logbook drawn from four decades of Suresh Narayanan’s own experiences of managing battles in the corporate trenches. Rather than offering abstract leadership theory, the book uses real episodes―across multiple countries―to show how leaders can navigate volatility with judgement, values and coordinated action. It argues that leadership is fundamentally human: built on trust, values, behaviour, credibility and outcomes.

Mr Narayanan uses stories from the Maggi noodles crisis, the Arab Spring in Egypt, the 2008 financial shock in Singapore and COVID-era decisions to drive home some fundamentals in management―staying grounded, asking the right questions, communicating clearly and putting people first.

About the Speaker

Suresh Narayanan is the Former Chairman and Managing Director of Nestlé India and has held additional responsibilities for Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Maldives during his tenure. He also served as the Chairman of the CII National Committee on Food Processing Industries. He was a member of the Board of Governors of the Advertising Standards Council of India. He has held leadership positions in several international markets, including Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Singapore, Egypt (North Africa Region), and the Philippines. He is also Member, Governing Council at Krea University.

On September 9, 2026, Krea University hosted a conversation with R. Seshasayee, Chairman, Board of Directors, Asian Paints Ltd, and Member, Advisory Group, Krea University, on his new work of historical fiction, The Grammar of Silence (Rupa, 2026).

With an introduction from Professor Mukund Padmanabhan, Distinguished Professor of Philosophy, SIAS, the discussion featured Dr Akhila Ramnarayan, Controller of Examinations and Head, Media Lab, Krea University in conversation with Mr Seshasayee. The conversation delved into his writing process and the book’s exploration of patriarchy, marginalisation, and the often-subdued voices of women across five centuries of Tamil history, followed by an engaging Q and A session.

In today's edition of Decoding Disciplines - The Krea Way, Prajwal Parajuly, Assistant Professor of Practice, Creative Writing, SIAS introduces our most recent addition, the Creative Writing minor.

The minor offers one of the most comprehensive undergraduate pathways in Creative Writing in India. It equips students with the skills to become versatile writers capable of navigating a rapidly evolving publishing landscape. Led by a fine line-up of practitioners turned mentors, the minor offers students the opportunity to explore multiple genres including fiction, poetry, screenwriting, drama, and literary non-fiction. The programme emphasises both specialisation and cross-genre experimentation, enabling students to develop a substantial portfolio of original creative work while gaining exposure to publishing professionals, literary agents, editors, and established writers.
