GNSU Celebrates IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Day 2026 with Grand Inauguration of WIE Affinity Group

The Faculty of Information Technology & Engineering (FITE), Gopal Narayan Singh University (GNSU), successfully inaugurated the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Day Celebration 2026 along with the official launch of the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group under the already active IEEE Student Branch of GNSU. The event was organized under the global theme "Technology with Purpose: Innovate Responsibly, Inspire Globally, Lead with Integrity."
The inaugural ceremony began with the traditional lamp lighting, followed by a warm welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) Pankaj Dashore, Dean, Faculty of Information Technology & Engineering, who congratulated all women participants and highlighted the importance of empowering women through technology, innovation, and leadership. He emphasized that the newly formed IEEE WIE Affinity Group would provide an excellent platform for female students to develop technical, professional, and leadership skills while connecting with the global IEEE community.
A special online keynote address was delivered by the Chair of the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group, Kolkata Section Prof.(Dr.) Sheli Sinha Chaudhuri, who congratulated Gopal Narayan Singh University on organizing the IEEE WIE Day Celebration and on establishing its new IEEE Women in Engineering Affinity Group. The speaker appreciated the university's commitment to promoting women in engineering and encouraged students to actively participate in global IEEE WIE initiatives.
The programme was graced by the presence of Registrar Prof. (Dr.) Kumar Alok Pratap Singh, Controller of Examination Mr. Sudeep Kumar Singh, Dr. Sangeeta, Mrs. Nirupama, Dean of Nursing Dr. K. Lata, Vice Principal Prof. (Dr.) Shaveta Sharma, and Dean, Faculty of Management Studies, Prof. (Dr.) Rajnish Ratna, Dean, Faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences, Prof. (Dr.) Abnish Ranjan along with faculty members and students from various departments.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sangeeta appreciated the initiative and described it as an excellent step towards the technical enhancement and empowerment of women. CoE Mr. Sudeep Kumar Singh spoke about the remarkable journey of women in engineering, highlighting the contributions of pioneering women engineers who paved the way for future generations. Registrar Dr. Kumar Alok Pratap Singh discussed the growing role of Generative Artificial Intelligence in empowering women through education, research, entrepreneurship, and professional development.
The university also announced that Dr. Monika has been appointed as the Advisor of the IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group at Gopal Narayan Singh University. The Affinity Group aims to inspire and support female students in pursuing excellence in engineering, technology, research, innovation, and leadership.
The afternoon session featured the Big Idea Pitch Competition, coordinated by Ms. Warisa Nusrat, where girl students showcased their innovative ideas through PowerPoint presentations. The competition encouraged creativity, problem-solving, and entrepreneurial thinking among participants, reflecting the spirit of innovation promoted by IEEE Women in Engineering.
The programme concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks delivered by Mrs. Vishakha Pathania, representing the women faculty members of the Faculty of Information Technology & Engineering. She expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, guests, IEEE representatives, faculty members, organizers, volunteers, and students for making the event a grand success.
The IEEE Women in Engineering Day Celebration 2026 at GNSU marked another significant milestone in promoting gender diversity, technological excellence, and women leadership in engineering, reaffirming the university's commitment to creating an inclusive and innovative academic environment.
