Dussehra Vocabulary:

1. Effigy - पुतला

2. Demigods (एक पौराणिक प्राणी (असुर) जिसमें ईश्वर से कम और इंसान से ज्यादा शक्ति होती है. सभी देवता एक साथ मिलके अपनी शक्ति को एकत्र कर के उनका वद्ध करतें हैं.) - The devs combined into Shakti (a mass of incandescent energy) to kill the demigod - Mahishasur.

3. Demon (राक्षस) - The day marks the victory of Durga over the demon Mahishasura.

4. Bonfires - बाहर खुले में आग जलाके कोई अनुष्ठान या उत्सव मनाना.

7 idioms derived from colours:

1. Pink Slip - dismiss (someone) from employment.

(जब किसी को नौकरी से निकाल दिया जाता है तब इस मुहावरे का इस्तेमाल किया जाता है.)

Example: He has been given a pink slip. (उसे नौकरी से निकाल दिया गया है)

2. Black out - faint

(जब कोई बेहोश हो जाता है तब इस मुहावरे का इस्तेमाल करते हैं)

Example: I black out when I stand under the sun for too long. (अगर मैं धूप में ज़्यादा देर खड़ा रहता हूँ तो बेहोश हो जाता हूँ.)

(जब कुछ पाने का बहुत अच्छा मौका हो)

Example: She missed a golden opportunity to perform at the event.

IELTS Listening: how to do multiple choice questions!!!

We have noticed that many students have difficulty dealing with MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS in listening.

Students find multiple choice questions more difficult because there is more to read, and the speaker often mentions more than one of the choices to confuse the listeners.

Try the following:

1. Try to read the question and choices before the listening starts.

2. Underline key words in each choice. The key words are those that make the difference in meaning between choices.

3. When listening, only look at the words you underlined. Don't read everything again.

4. Expect the speaker to mention more than one choice to trick you. Be careful.

5. If you're not sure, make a good guess, then move on to the next question.

And for these tips to be effective, DO LOTS OF PRACTICE!!
