Plants are the primary source of essential trace minerals such as zinc (Zn) and iron (Fe) for human nutritionโ€”but they are also a major route of exposure to toxic elements like cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As), and lead (Pb). Understanding how plants acquire, transport, detoxify, or accumulate these elements is critical for global food safety, nutrition, and public health.
