The Dept. of Implantology, VMSDC in proud partnership with DIO Implants, successfully conducted cutting-edge Advanced Implant Mastership Program on 16th and 17th march 2026. Participants mastered intricate soft and hard tissue augmentation, alongside direct and indirect sinus lift techniques, through intensive hands-on workshops on animal models. Over 30 participants, including post graduates, faculty members, Alumni and General practitioners from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Pondicherry enhanced their skills, guided by the unparalleled expertise of Dr. Tarun Kumar, DIO Implant KOL, Australia. A monumental stride in dental education.

The Dept. of Public Health Dentistry, VMSDC organized World Oral Health Day celebrations on 20 March 2026 across multiple venues.
Activities Conducted:

At out Patient Department (OPD), VMSDC: 65 beneficiaries – 20.3.26
At Silverline School (in association with PFA): 250 beneficiaries – 20.3.26
At Vinayaka Mission’s Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, Salem: 85 beneficiaries – 20.3.26
At Vinayaka Mission’s Annapoorani Matriculation School, Salem: 332 beneficiaries - 24.3.26
At Ervadi (Adopted Village) Pasuvananthampatty and Narikkalpatty villages, Salem: 91 beneficiaries - 26.3.26
At Anbu illam School for Mentally Challenged, Salem (in association with PFA): 48 beneficiaries - 26.3.26
The various educational, clinical, and interactive activities effectively promoted awareness of oral hygiene and preventive dental care among the beneficiaries, contributing to the overall success of the program. Faculty members, postgraduate students, and interns actively participated in the program.

The Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, VMSDC was honoured with an Award of Gratitude from the Salem Institute of Rehabilitation in recognition of its dedicated service in treating special children every week. On the occasion of the institution’s 13th Annual Day,
Dr. Sowkarthicaa, Assistant Professor, received the award on behalf of the department. This recognition reflects the department’s unwavering commitment to service, care, and community outreach, and serves as an inspiration for many more meaningful initiatives in the future.

Dept. of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, VMSDC Organizes Special Dental Clinic Program with the aim of providing dental care for Children with Special care needs. The program also serves as luminary for new generation dentists since the Post Graduates of the Department are encouraged to learn the children’s unique behavioral patterns and treat them. Dental services were delivered under the close supervision of the faculty, ensuring high-quality and compassionate care tailored to the specific needs for 5 beneficiaries. Children were brought to the Clinic by the college vehicle and were accompanied by their parents or caretakers from Salem Institute Of Rehabilitation, Special education school in Salem, Tamil Nadu on 21.04.26.

The Dept. of Oral Medicine and Radiology, VMSDC organized a CDE Lecture and Hands-On Workshop on 30th April 2026 at the Board Room, VMSDC, Salem, as part of the observance of National Oral Medicine Day celebrated on 24th April. The theme for this year was “Know Your Oral Medicine and Radiology Specialist.” The program featured Dr. Kirpa Johar, BDS, MSc Laser Dentistry, Vienna University, Austria, as the resource person. The sessions included expert lectures, interactive case discussions, and immersive hands-on training in laser dentistry, providing valuable academic and clinical exposure for 36 participants.

Prof.Dr.Reena Rachel John, Associate Dean- Research was invited as guest faculty for fellowship in sports dentistry (2025- 2026) and been awarded certificate by Indian Academy Of Sports Dentistry And Indian Dental Association for her invaluable contribution.

The Third BDS 2025-26 batch parents teachers meeting was successfully conducted on April 9, 2026, at founders hall VMSDC focusing on academic progress, clinical requirements, and exam preparedness. The session provided valuable guidance to students, encouraging consistent effort and active participation in both academics and clinical practice.

A Career Guidance Program for Dental Students on the topic “Doctor–Patient Communication and Handling Exam Stress” was conducted by the Alumni and Placement Cell Committee on 7th April 2026 at VMSDC, Salem, for Final Year BDS students, with 66 participants. The program was organized under the guidance of Dr Maya Ramesh, Coordinator of the Alumni and Placement Cell Committee, and coordinated by
Dr Jayabalan. Dr Lakshmi Dorai, Professor and Head, Department of Psychiatry, handled the session on doctor–patient communication, emphasising empathy, active listening, and professionalism. Interns performed the role-play to demonstrate real-life clinical scenarios. Ms Surya, Assistant Professor, Department of Clinical Psychology, VSRBS, conducted the session on managing exam stress, focusing on time management and relaxation techniques. Psychological assessments conducted by Ms Jayashree and Mr. Sathish from VMKVMCH, Salem made the program highly interactive and beneficial.

Prof. Dr.Reena Rachel John, Associate Dean- Research was invited as faculty in the National OMFS masterclass, PROMPT 2026 organized by Pushpagiri College of Dental sciences in association with AOMSI Kerala state branch from 16 – 19 April 2026 at Pushpagiri Medical College, Tiruvalla, Kerala .She gave a lecture on the Topic of TMJ ankylosis. Post graduate students from many parts of the country participated and got benefitted.
