This is Day 10 of Project Umeed, held on Monday, 17 August at Kheema Bisht school.

Day 10 – Session Summary

Classes: 4th–5th, 6th–8th, and 9th–11th

Facilitator: *Harsh*t Samant*

Total sessions: 3

9th & 11th:
The session began with chemical reactions—first, the reaction of quicklime with water to form slaked lime, followed by the reaction of slaked lime with carbon dioxide. Students also explored how CO₂ can be generated using baking soda and HCl, demonstrating the basic working principle behind a fire extinguisher. The session then shifted to Motion, where students performed several small experiments and activities related to inertia, motion, and the effect of mass on motion, making the concepts more tangible.

6th–8th:
Similar concepts and experiments related to motion, inertia, and lighter/heavier objects were explored, but at a simpler level appropriate for the students' age group.

4th & 5th:
The session began with *Harsh*ta Bora (Class 9)* demonstrating an experiment on reflection of light for the younger students. This was followed by a series of simple, engaging experiments related to motion, allowing students to observe the concepts through hands-on activities rather than just learning them theoretically.

Overall, Day 10 focused strongly on learning through experimentation, with concepts being adapted according to the age and understanding level of each group.

Project उम्मीद – Day 9 Session Summary

Day 9 of Project उम्मीद focused on understanding heating, cooling and expansion of air through simple, hands-on experiments.

The sessions for Classes 4–5 and 6–8 were conducted on 10 August (Monday). Students performed different activities using balloons, bottles, hot water and cold water to observe how air behaves when heated and cooled. They learned how heating and cooling can cause changes in air volume and create pressure differences.

For Classes 6–8, the concepts were explored at a slightly deeper level. Students were also shown the oxidation of alcohol experiment, through which they understood the idea of high- and low-pressure regions and how surrounding atmospheric pressure can cause the balloon to move inward.

The session for Classes 9–11 was conducted on 11 August (Tuesday). The same experiments were taken to a higher level and connected with the Kinetic Theory of Gases. Students discussed how heating changes the motion and kinetic energy of gas molecules and how this relates to pressure and volume. The oxidation of alcohol was also discussed in terms of the role of oxygen in the reaction.

The session helped students connect what they observed experimentally with the scientific concepts behind it, while keeping the learning age-appropriate and activity-based.

विज्ञान को केवल किताबों में पढ़ना ही पर्याप्त नहीं है। जब बच्चे स्वयं किसी गतिविधि को करते हैं, उसके पीछे छिपे कारण को समझते हैं और अपने आसपास की चीजों से विज्ञान को जोड़ते हैं, तभी सीखना वास्तव में सार्थक बनता है।

प्रोजेक्ट उम्मीद के दिवस 10 पर Osmic Academy, खटीमा में विद्यार्थियों के साथ इसी सोच को आगे बढ़ाते हुए विभिन्न विज्ञान आधारित गतिविधियों का आयोजन किया गया।

कक्षा 3 से 5 के विद्यार्थियों के लिए Bird in the Cage गतिविधि कराई गई। इस सरल और रोचक गतिविधि के माध्यम से बच्चों को इसके पीछे छिपे वैज्ञानिक सिद्धांत को समझाया गया। बच्चों ने गतिविधि को बहुत उत्सुकता के साथ किया और यह जानने का प्रयास किया कि आखिर ऐसा क्यों होता है। छोटे बच्चों की जिज्ञासा और उनके सवालों ने पूरे सत्र को और भी रोचक बना दिया।

कक्षा 6 से 12 के विद्यार्थियों के लिए Food Adulteration पर एक विशेष जागरूकता एवं प्रयोगात्मक सत्र आयोजित किया गया।

इस सत्र में विद्यार्थियों ने केवल खाद्य मिलावट के बारे में जानकारी प्राप्त नहीं की, बल्कि विभिन्न खाद्य पदार्थों की शुद्धता की जांच करने की प्रक्रिया को प्रयोगों के माध्यम से समझा।

सत्र के दौरान दूध, चायपत्ती, नमक, चीनी, हरी मिर्च, मूंग दाल, अरहर दाल, चने की दाल, काली मिर्च, चावल, आटा, फल, शहद, घी सहित कई सामान्य रूप से उपयोग किए जाने वाले खाद्य पदार्थों की जांच की गई।

विद्यार्थियों के लिए यह अनुभव इसलिए खास रहा क्योंकि उन्होंने महसूस किया कि विज्ञान केवल प्रयोगशाला या किताबों तक सीमित नहीं है। हमारे घर की रसोई से लेकर बाजार में मिलने वाले खाद्य पदार्थों तक, विज्ञान हमारे दैनिक जीवन का एक महत्वपूर्ण हिस्सा है।

इस गतिविधि के माध्यम से विद्यार्थियों में खाद्य पदार्थों की गुणवत्ता के प्रति जागरूकता के साथ साथ वैज्ञानिक दृष्टिकोण, निरीक्षण क्षमता और तार्किक सोच विकसित करने का प्रयास किया गया।

Project Umeed का उद्देश्य केवल बच्चों को विज्ञान पढ़ाना नहीं, बल्कि उनमें सवाल पूछने, चीजों को समझने, प्रमाण के आधार पर सोचने और अपने आसपास की दुनिया को वैज्ञानिक नजरिए से देखने की आदत विकसित करना है।

प्रोजेक्ट उम्मीद – दिवस 8

प्रोजेक्ट उम्मीद के अंतर्गत खीमा बिष्ट एस.एम. इंटर कॉलेज, खटीमा में दिवस 8 की विज्ञान गतिविधियों का सफलतापूर्वक आयोजन किया गया। इस अवसर पर कक्षा 4–5 एवं 6–11 के विद्यार्थियों ने उत्साहपूर्वक सहभागिता की।

कक्षा 4–5 के विद्यार्थियों ने ऑप्टिकल इल्यूजन के मॉडल स्वयं तैयार किए। इसके साथ ही रेस ऑफ लिक्विड्स गतिविधि के माध्यम से पानी, शैम्पू, सॉस एवं पेट्रोल जैसे विभिन्न द्रवों के प्रवाह का अवलोकन किया। विद्यार्थियों को हाइड्रोकार्बन के दहन पर आधारित मैजिक ऑफ साइंस का प्रदर्शन भी कराया गया।

कक्षा 6–11 के सत्र को दो भागों में आयोजित किया गया। प्रथम भाग में विद्यार्थियों को INSPIRE Awards – MANAK एवं राष्ट्रीय बाल विज्ञान कांग्रेस (NCSC) की जानकारी देते हुए मॉडल निर्माण, शोध कार्य तथा सहभागिता की प्रक्रिया समझाई गई। द्वितीय भाग में विद्यार्थियों ने मृदा का pH परीक्षण, बर्नौली प्रमेय (वायु दाब) तथा हाइड्रोकार्बन के दहन से संबंधित प्रयोग किए।

इन गतिविधियों के माध्यम से विद्यार्थियों में वैज्ञानिक सोच, प्रयोगात्मक कौशल एवं नवाचार के प्रति रुचि विकसित की गई।

Day 7 – Project Umeed
Venue: Kheema Bisht S.M. Inter College, Khatima

On the seventh day of Project Umeed, students of Classes IV–V actively participated in hands-on science experiments, including Why Humans Need Two Eyes, Air Occupies Space, Ignition Temperature, and The Role of CO₂ in Fire Extinguishing.

Students of Classes VI–XI participated in a Herbal Plantation and Research Initiative. Each student received a herbal plant and learned the correct method of preparing the soil mixture and planting it. They were instructed to repot the plant after 20–30 days, once proper root development had taken place.

Students were further guided to research their plant by identifying common diseases and insect attacks and to use organic remedies such as neem oil, turmeric-based solutions, and others.

Project Umeed – Day 1 Update
Dynasty Modern Gurukul Academy, Chhinki Farm, Khatima

The Day 1 session of Project Umeed was successfully conducted at Dynasty Modern Gurukul Academy, Chhinki Farm, Khatima, with the enthusiastic participation of approximately 120 students.

The science session was facilitated by Mr. Sumit Pandey and Mr. Harsh*t Samant, who introduced students to a series of interactive, NCERT-aligned science activities and experiments. Around eight demonstrations were conducted, covering concepts such as air pressure, Bernoulli’s principle, acid–metal reactions, electroplating, and other science-based phenomena related to the school curriculum.

The hands-on demonstrations enabled students to observe scientific principles in action, fostering curiosity, scientific temperament, and a deeper understanding of classroom concepts.
The successful completion of Day 1 marks a promising beginning to Project Umeed, a year-long initiative aimed at promoting experiential learning.

Session Theme: Food Adulteration Awareness

Today's session was conducted in a different format from our regular sessions. Instead of teaching students in separate class groups, all students from Classes 4 to 11 (except Class 10) attended a combined special session.

The session focused on food adulteration, covering:

- What food adulteration is and why it is commonly practiced.
- Common adulterants found in everyday food items.
- Simple methods to detect food adulteration.
- Practical demonstrations using easily available household materials and common chemicals.

The session was facilitated by:

- Harsh*t Samant
- Ankit Bhatt
- Rahul Pokhariya

The facilitators explained the concepts through interactive demonstrations and encouraged students to think critically about the quality and safety of the food they consume. Students were also motivated to perform simple adulteration detection tests at home, under the guidance of their parents or guardians, using safe and easily available materials wherever appropriate.

Overall, the session was highly interactive, informative, and well received. It successfully raised awareness about food safety and inspired students to apply scientific thinking in their daily lives.
