On November 11, 1989, IIT Roorkee (erstwhile University of Roorkee) established the Roorkee School for the Deaf in its campus as its Social Initiative.
Anushruti has been successfully promoting special education and vocational training to
the hearing impaired differently –abled children, the school today has over 100 children
with special needs. The profound and severely disabled, have an academic session
with qualified and dedicated special educators. Most of the teachers have been trained

A painting workshop titled “Tribute to Raza” was organized at Anushruti by Ms. Mani Nandini Sharma on 28th August 2016 in the memory of famous painter Padma Vibhushan Syed Haider "S. H." Raza (22 February 1922 – 23 July 2016).
The artwork is instantly recognizable thanks to the geometric motifs that feature in it. The artwork showcases the famous artist, Raza's explored themes of prakriti (nature), kundalini (primal energy), tribhuj (triangle) and bindu (circle/dot).
