About K.L.Polytechnic In 1971 a diploma course in Electronics Engg. and a two year course Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA) were addded.
The institute is located in Roorkee town, where some other premier academic & research institutes like Indian Institute of Tecshnology (IIT), Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), National Institute of Hydrology (NIH) and Irrigation Research Institute (IRI) are also located. Established in 1956 as Kanhaiya Lal Technical Institute , it intially offered only certificate course.In 1963 it was u
pgraded as K.L.Polytechnic and three years diploma course in discilpines of Civil Engg., Mechanical Engg., Electrical Engg., were started. The admissions to all courses are made through an Entrance Examination (JEEP) conduted by the Uttarakhand Board of Technical Education. The environment in the institution is highly academic, which is evident from the very encouraging results of the student in the Board Examination. The Alumini of K.L.Polytechnic have been working in reputed orgnizations in India and abroad. This institution was selected as Community Polytecnic bu MHRD, Govt. of India in1986 and since then it has been running several schemes for community developmet. A project to integrate the person with disabilities (PWD) in the main stream of technical and vocatoinal educational under the assistance of MHRD, Govt. of India has also been running in the institute since 1995. The polytechnic is making steady progress in its academic activities. During the current academic year (2008-09) the intake in all course has been increased from 40 to 50 seats. A new Diploma Course in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Automobile Engineering has been started. During this academic session, this polytechnic is also functioning as mentor to the newly proposed Government Polytechnic, Sidkul (Haridwar). A batch of 40 students in the diploma Course in Electronics Engineering has been attached to K.L.Polytechnic, Roorkee. This institute will continue to serve as a nucleus for the Government Polytechnic Sidkul (Haridwar) till the new polytechnic comes to existence. K.L.Polytechnic Roorkee is also going to serve as a centre of IGNOU for Diploma Course in Civil Engineering.
