Dr. Kamal Jain Lab, IIT Roorkee

On 22nd of July, one of PhD students, Harsh*t defended his thesis on "Implementation of Photogrammetric Point Clouds for 3D GIS Modelling".
Harsh*t would soon be joining a postdoc position in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Mr. Ammar Dali, a foreign student working under Prof. Kamal Jain and Prof Siddhartha Khare attended the recent InGARSS Conference and was selected for the following awards:-

1. He was awarded first place in the Story through Maps competition.
In this competition, he presented a story of the degradation of agriculture in his home country Syria during the armed conflict through a short video.

2. He was awarded second place in the Earth at Risk EO Data Image Contest.
He presented an image consisting of three maps of a neighbourhood in Damascus (Syria's capital city) describing the enormous damage induced by the armed conflict and how this neighbourhood became uninhabited.

Both competitions were during the IEEE InGARSS 2023 conference, which was held between 10-13 December 2023 in Bengaluru, India.

Prof. Kamal Jain and his team at IIT Roorkee organised the Third International Conference on Unmanned Aerial Systems in Geomatics jointly with the National University of Malaysia UKM which was led by Prof. Khairul Nizam Maulud at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 19-21 November 2023.

Another successful event thanks to both teams.

Prof. Kamal Jain is currently attending Geospatial Week in Cairo Egypt.

Recently, Yogender (https://www.polito.it/en/staff?p=098663) , a PhD student from Politecnico Di Torino joined Dr. Kamal Jain Lab, IIT Roorkee for an internship.

He is working on the creation of with UAV- sensor based datasets and their update with respect to time under the guidance of Professor Kamal Jain.

Yogender is currently pursuing his PhD under the supervision of Prof. Piero Boccardo (https://www.facebook.com/piero.boccardo.3) from Politecnico Di Torino.

Recently Prof. Kamal Jain and Abhishek Rai visited the Institute of Climate Change, National University of Malaysia (UKM), Malaysia. They discussed various avenues of collaboration, including organizing the 3rd International Conference on in UASG-2023.

On 8th May, Shri. Vinod Bothale, Retired Assoc. Director, NRSC, ISRO and Dr. Rajashree Bothale, Deputy Director, NRSC, ISRO visited our lab at IIT Roorkee.

Prof. Kamal Jain gave them a synopsis of the work going on lab. They also visited the Drone development lab. They appreciated and praised the work going on under the leadership of Professor Kamal Jain

Sunny Kanta Prasad Kushwaha, a Ph.D. Research Scholar of the lab recently presented his research at the International conference SPIE Future Sensing 2023, 18-20 April, Yokohama, Japan.
He also received travel grant of 1000 USD for attending

Prof. Kamal Jain attended the EGU23 General Assembly from 24-28 April in Vienna, Austria. Along with him, two PhD Research Scholars Vishal Mishra and Shubham Awasthi also attended the event. During the event, he met with many fellow researchers and talked about research collaborations.

Team KJ congratulated S.K.P Kushwaha Sunny Kushwaha on getting Travel Grant from the SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, for attending Future Sensing Technologies 2023 in Japan. He is currently attending the conference and will be presenting his work there.

Team KJ is pleased to share that Rahul Raj Thennasserimalayil on getting selected for Taiwan International Graduate Program. He will be visiting Academia Sinica, Taiwan, for a research internship. Rahul Raj will be pursuing his master's dissertation under Prof. Kamal Jain.
