Behold the Sengol, a masterpiece of craftsmanship and devotion!

During the Chola empire, the sengol was considered as a symbol of authority. The passing of the Sengol from one King to his successor marked the transfer of power. This powerful symbol was adopted To mark Indian independence in Aug 1947.

The sengol is 5 feet long and is made with silver and gold. A team of 10 Gold Craftsmen took 10-15 days to complete The Sengol. It embodies the spirit of and signifies just and fair rule.

Nandi which majestically sits at the top symbolises justice and protection.

Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated this historic sengol to the nation on 28th May 2023.

The statue of at the north-eastern public entrance is inspired from the Vijay Vitthala Temple, Hampi, Karnataka, dated 15th century CE. It represents the power of discernment, self-realisation, and wisdom.

Hamsa has been extensively used as a decorative motif in multiple Indian dynasties such as Chalukyas, Cholas, Vijaynagar, and Hoysalas.

In the Gupta period, Makara is shown as the vehicle of the river goddess, Ganga, and is usually depicted at the door jambs.

The Ashva Dvar on the South entrance of the new parliament building represents endurance, power, and dynamism.

It takes inspiration from the Sun Temple Complex at Konark around 1250 CE, which is also the state emblem of Odisha, and has a place in the Indian Constitution as an illustration executed by Acharya Nandalal Bose.
