Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was born on 14 April 1891 in Mhow (now Dr. Ambedkar Nagar), Madhya Pradesh, India. His father was Ramji Maloji Sakpal and his mother was Bhimabai. He belonged to a humble family, but education was highly valued in his household.

From childhood, Dr. Ambedkar faced severe caste discrimination. In school, he was made to sit separately from other students. He was not allowed to drink water from the common pot. These painful experiences shaped his determination to fight against inequality through education.

Dr. Ambedkar was an excellent student. He completed his graduation from Elphinstone College, Bombay. Later, the Maharaja of Baroda, Sayajirao Gaekwad, awarded him a scholarship to study abroad.

In 1913, he went to Columbia University in the United States, where he completed his M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics. After that, he went to London and studied at the London School of Economics, where he earned a D.Sc. degree. He also studied law and became a Barrister.

After returning to India, Dr. Ambedkar continued to face discrimination, but he never gave up. He started working for the rights of the oppressed and marginalized communities. He launched newspapers like Mooknayak, Bahishkrit Bharat, and Janata to spread awareness.

Dr. Ambedkar led several social movements for equality. In 1927, he led the Mahad Satyagraha, demanding the right for untouchables to access public water sources. He also started temple entry movements to ensure equal religious rights for all.

After India’s independence, Dr. Ambedkar became the first Law Minister of India. On 29 August 1947, he was appointed Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Indian Constitution. He worked tirelessly, often for 18 hours a day, to prepare the Constitution.

On 26 January 1950, the Constitution of India came into effect. It guaranteed equality, fundamental rights, and justice for all citizens and abolished untouchability.

Dr. Ambedkar was also a strong supporter of women’s rights. He introduced the Hindu Code Bill to give women rights in property and marriage.

In 1956, Dr. Ambedkar embraced Buddhism and encouraged millions of his followers to adopt Buddhism, promoting equality and humanity.
Dr. B. R. Ambedkar is known as the Father of the Indian Constitution and Babasaheb. He dedicated his entire life to equality, justice, and human rights.

We salute our hero on his birth anniversary 🫡🇮🇳🇮🇳
